The Maritime System Division of Leidos is seeking an entry-level Ocean Engineer for our Long Beach, MS office to work with our engineering and production teams as we develop and produce cutting-edge solutions to address existing and emerging missions of national importance for a broad range of customers across the Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, other governmental agencies, and commercial clients.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Support the design, development, installation, and maintenance of a variety of sub-surface and surface electro-mechanical systems.
- Create and modify detailed part, assembly, and installation engineering drawings using the SolidWorks software suite.
- Work with multidisciplinary engineering teams and taking design input from multiple engineering disciplines with responsibility for timely completion of tasks under the direction and supervision of a senior engineer.
- Perform tasks to completion semi-independently after receiving technical direction, be able to suggest solutions to technical problems, and serve on a design review team.
- Prepare and/or review proposed engineering change documents, test plans, and test reports.
- Assist in the production and assembly of prototype systems.
- Work with production staff to ensure products are manufactured as designed and in a timely manner.
- Participate in product verification testing designed to ensure requirements are being met.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in ocean engineering or equivalent from an ABET-accredited engineering degree program and less than 2 years prior relevant experience.
- Proficiency with the SolidWorks software suite.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Strong problem solving and organizational skills, along with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Hands-on experience using machine shop tools and wood working shop tools (i.e. drills, saws, grinder, router, sander, sandblaster, ratchets, wrenches, etc.)
- US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
- Must work well with others and be able to communicate and understand verbal and written instructions.
- Must be detail oriented.
- Average physical mobility to move around an office and production environment and the ability to lift 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2-4 years of prior relevant experience or master’s degree in ocean engineering or equivalent with less than 2 years of prior relevant experience.
- Prior experience with unmanned maritime vehicles and associated sensors, underwater cables/connectors, launch and recovery subsystems, and acoustic sensors.
- Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA).
- Experience with finite element analysis for structural and thermal simulations.
- Experience working in an ISO manufacturing environment.
- Experience with composites.
- Experience with welding.
- Prior experience working on at-sea vessels.
- Prior experience with designing for a maritime environment.
- Ability and willingness to travel outside the local area 1-10 times a year.
- Hands-on experience working with electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Be self-motivated with the desire to learn and perform diverse work.

Pay Range:Pay Range $55,250.00 - $99,875.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
