Salary Exempt (United States of America)The Associate Lab Manager will support the Lab Manager in building goals and objectives for the Altium Engineering and Design Center Laboratory, and providing leadership to laboratory staff. They will develop increasing competency as a technical resource for sales, operations, commercialization, and quality teams when necessary. Under Lab manager guidance, responsible for developing and overseeing lab procedures and practices, and ensure Lab processes are documented and capable of achieving appropriate certifications.Essential Functions- Roles/Responsibilities
Leadership
Set goals and objectives for the Altium Performance Laboratory and staff
Supervise and direct lab technicians to provide reliable analysis
Ensure the laboratory follows Altium’s safety program
Provide leadership to direct reports in accordance with company guiding principles
Technical
Serve as technical resource for Sales, Operations, Commercialization and Quality teams
Identify material science innovations and recommend material application strategies for the business
Serve as the in-house expert to provide materials-related support for all developmental projects
Provide a technical assessment of new product opportunities and recommend solution or approach to overcome or avoid technical barriers to commercial success.
Make recommendations regarding when FEA and other techniques should be applied to particular designs in the developmental stages, to prevent technical issues with commercialization
Identify opportunities for our customers and Altium value creation in product lifecycle and contribute ideation and innovation in various settings.
Drive quantifiable incremental margin resulting from material and technical solutions with individual products.
Assess existing product lines to recommend performance or margin improvements based on material changes
Analyze package physical properties, raw materials, and performance
Draw conclusions from data and present those effectively to technical and non-technical audiences to make effective decisions
Provide technical solutions to production and design problems
Provide studies and technical documents to certify material and product functionality in supply chain and life cycle
Product Stewardship and Laboratory routines
Develop and maintain lab practices and procedures that conform to industry and regulatory standards
Lead and manage appropriate laboratory certifications
Ensure the laboratory delivers high quality test reports
Perform laboratory tests
Keep records and documentation on tests, materials, and products organized and accessible
Determine laboratory tests to outsource and manage 3rd party laboratories
Achieve and maintain appropriate capabilities and certification for in-house lab functions
Confirm product and material suitability for customer product application
Reasonable mandatory overtime may be required due to business needs.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelors degree in engineering, physical sciences, mathematics, or related field
2+ years experience in a lab environment in packaging manufacturing or related industry
Excellent analytical skills
Prior supervisory experience
Experience in plastics manufacturing
