Job Description

The role

Imagine yourself working in an international team, providing innovative, top-notch legal advice to clients who are the leaders of today and tomorrow in their sector and working seamlessly together across teams and offices. This is Clifford Chance.

As a single, fully integrated global partnership, we pride ourselves on our approachable, collaborative and innovative way of working.

Our Amsterdam office has been providing clients with high-quality advice and legal insight for almost half a century. We combine the Firm's global standards with our in-depth expertise and network in the Dutch market and abroad. We always strive to exceed the expectations of our clients, which include major financial institutions, financial investors (which includes private equity and infrastructure investors), corporates from all sectors (including major tech companies), governments, regulators, trade bodies and non-profit organisations.

Quality of service and professionalism are highly valued, as are a pro-active attitude and teamwork. We value work ethic, respect and good communication to get the best results for our clients and to ensure we create a welcoming and safe work environment for all our colleagues.

Who you will work with

Our Banking Group is consistently ranked Tier 1 in all leading directories. The development of our practice has been driven by our support to our clients' business needs, where and when they need it.

Our in depth Dutch and English law capabilities combined with the product and sector expertise offered by the team sets us apart from our competitors. This combination also ensures that you, as an integral part of that team (including as part of a wider cross-office team), will participate in leading major market-shaping transactions both in the Netherlands and other jurisdictions serviced by the team. This includes, among others, Asia and Africa.

What you will be responsible for

As a member of our Banking, Finance & Capital Markets department, you will work on a wide-range of legal services, advising our clients on:

  • Syndicated lending
  • Acquisition financing
  • Project financing
  • Development finance and impact financing
  • Trade and commodity financing

Qualifications

Your experience

You will have a solid background in finance transactions with the ambition to work on a variety of transactions.

We are looking for associates who are able to think outside the box to create bespoke solutions to meet our clients' business objectives.

In short you bring:

  • Up to 4 years' PQE in finance transactions ideally gained within a large international law firm;
  • Qualification as an English solicitor (or qualified in another common law jurisdiction open to re-qualifying as an English solicitor). In the case of a qualification other than as an English solicitor a minimum of NQ2 years' PQE level is required;
  • The ability to deliver a first rate service to our clients that exceeds their expectations;
  • Awareness and understanding of the teamwork ethic that is an inherent part of being able to deliver first class client service;
  • Commitment, team spirit and communication skills are required qualities to progress in a stimulating environment.

Note - Dutch language skills are advantageous but not essential.

It is crucial that you can demonstrate an appetite for business development, client relationship management and thought leadership.

How we will support you

From your first day with us, you will have varied opportunities to continuously grow and develop your skills and knowledge. You will work in a dynamic, multicultural environment and in a fun team of energetic professionals. You will get the opportunity to develop your legal and business skills by following tailored (international) trainings and courses with our Clifford Chance Academy.

  • You will be working with a broad range of clients and the firm's other teams and practice areas, not only in Amsterdam, but across the globe.
  • You will have exposure to work which often involves complex matters that frequently headline in the financial and business press, and also work involving emerging markets and technologies.
  • You will have extensive client contact both as part of your daily working routine but will also have the opportunity to develop client contacts through a wide range of opportunities including organising seminars for our key clients, or providing bespoke client training.
  • You will develop an unbeatable multi-disciplinary skill set as well as client facing skills whilst working with some of the best-known market leaders in their respective practice areas.
  • We will provide the opportunity for you to develop as a recognised practitioner in the field.
