This role presents an exciting opportunity for a candidate to delve into the dynamic intersection of law, compliance, and the insurance industry. It also provides the chance to collaborate cross-functionally with the Product, Risk, Underwriting, Customer Success, Marketing, and Corporate Development departments. The role not only entails ensuring legal compliance but also actively contributes to aligning legal strategies with broader business objectives. Additionally, it offers unique exposure to an innovative and evolving industry.

This is a hybrid position based out of New York.


Responsibilities

  • Collaboratively lead the strategic development and deployment of novel insurance products. 
  • Work cross-functionally with the Product, Risk, Underwriting, Marketing and Customer Success departments to provide compliance guidance in underwriting and claims processes. 
  • Monitor, analyze and ensure the Company’s compliance with applicable insurance regulations, industry standards and best practices.
  • Review and assist with responses to regulatory inquiries.
  • Maintain insurance producer licenses for entity, individual agents/brokers, and claim adjusters.
  • Supervise continued education requirements of licensed personnel through third-party providers.
  • Develop internal programs and resources, including training materials for various departments regarding compliance, best practices, and risk management. 
  • Conduct regular reviews of internal policies, procedures and processes to ensure alignment with applicable laws and regulations and industry standards. 
  • Contribute to designing and executing compliance testing and monitoring programs.  
  • Prepare and present comprehensive compliance reports to senior management, highlighting concerns, recommendations, and progress on compliance initiatives.  
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to address and remediate compliance-related issues and findings. 
  • Assist Chief Information Security Officer concerning NY Part 500 compliance, SOC II observations, and responding to due diligence inquiries.
  • Support Product and Technology teams in navigating consumer protections, industry standards, and best practices in deployment of insurance products and SaaS platforms.
  • The position will directly report to the Head of the Legal and collaborate extensively with leadership of multiple teams including Product, Risk, Underwriting, Customer Success, Marketing and Corporate Development departments.


Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience from an insurance carrier, MGA, or agent/broker, or government experience at a department of insurance.  Experience designing and/or managing insurance products is a plus. 
  • JD preferred, but not required. 
  • Property and casualty insurance license preferred; CPCU certification desirable. 
  • Strong understanding of insurance regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, developing risk management strategies and implementing control frameworks. 
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal), capable of presenting findings and recommendations to various audiences. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development. 
  • Passion for insurance and ability to synthesize federal, state, and local statutes and regulations.

Base Salary

The base salary range is between $190,000 - $215,000 annually.

Base salary does not include other forms of compensation or benefits. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including prior experience, expertise, location and current market data and may vary from the range above.
