Associate General Counsel

We're hiring an Associate General Counsel to help us scale through a critical growth period. You'll work across legal ethics, privacy, AI regulation, commercial contracts, immigration, and whatever else the business needs — this is a generalist role defined by judgment, not narrow specialization. You'll have real ownership: shaping compliance programs, building vendor relationships, and defining how legal risk is managed as we grow. You'll work directly with founders and executives who treat legal as a strategic partner.

• Build privacy and AI compliance frameworks that enable speed without unnecessary risk

• Translate regulatory requirements into practical guidance for product, engineering, and operations

• Review and negotiate vendor contracts, customer agreements, and partnership deals

• Support M&A and fundraising transactions as needed

• Serve as the go-to legal partner for cross-functional teams across the company

• Experiment with AI tools to automate routine legal work and improve team efficiency

• Help define what modern, technology-enabled legal operations looks like at Manifest

Must-haves:

• 3–6 years of legal experience, including in-house or GC/AGC experience at a startup

• Hands-on experience with commercial and SaaS contracts, including negotiation

• Working knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, CPRA, and emerging AI regulations

• Familiarity with legal ethics, employment law, and immigration (visa petitions, sponsorships)

• Ability to prioritize independently and give practical, business-grounded legal advice

Nice-to-haves:

• Experience supporting M&A or venture fundraising transactions

• Prior use of AI tools for contract review, legal research, or workflow automation

• Background at a law firm before transitioning in-house

This position will be based in the New York office 5-days a week. The good-faith salary range for this position is $180K - 200K USD. This range reflects base compensation and may not include bonus, equity, or other components of total compensation. Actual pay is determined by a range of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's location, experience, education, and skills, as well as the specific scope of the role. Candidates based remotely in the United States are welcome to apply, and compensation will be assessed according to regional models.
