The Opportunity:
The Associate will primarily assist in providing support to Hamilton Lane’s Canadian Separately Managed Account clients across all aspects including Portfolio Management, Strategic Planning and Investment Monitoring. Further, they will be responsible for primary fund investment diligence and supporting Hamilton Lane Canada broader initiatives.
SMA & Portfolio Oversight Responsibilities:
- Work closely with senior FIMS professionals to support Hamilton Lane’s existing SMA client base in Canada.
- Contribute to the design and refinement of client strategic plans and long-term investment programs.
- Model portfolio construction and pacing scenarios.
- Act as a conduit between clients and the broader Hamilton Lane organization.
- Navigate internal organizational dynamics and leverage a cross-functional approach to support clients.
- Learn and maintain a working knowledge of Hamilton Lane technology tools used to aggregate and present information for client deliverables.
- Assist in the creation and review of presentation materials for SMA clients and prospects.
- Develop expertise in Hamilton Lane transaction offerings to support client investment objectives.
- Present to and meet with Hamilton Lane SMA clients on a regular basis, both remotely and in person.
Broader HL Canada Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the continued growth of Hamilton Lane Canada.
- Support senior Client Solutions professionals in the Toronto office on SMA-related business development efforts, including RFP responses, internal coordination, presentation development, and meetings.
- Maintain up-to-date records of client and external managers interactions in DealCloud.
Diligence responsibilities
- Act as a supporting diligence professional for primary fund investments.
- Collaborate with the global FIMS team to advance the primary investment pipeline.
- Build and maintain an understanding of the Canadian GP landscape across private equity and private credit.
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS; Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; CFA, CAIA and/or MBA is an asset
- 3-5 years’ postgraduate experience in finance, preferably in private markets with experience across both Portfolio oversight and investment diligence
- Good understanding of capital structures, different financial instruments and portfolio construction fundamentals
- Strong quantitative/analytical skills (data analysis, numerical skills, problem solving etc.)
- Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills, with the ability to build robust models, perform complex analysis with strong attention to detail.
- Comfort using data and AI-enabled tools to support research, analysis and diligence work
- Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and a willingness to learn and receive feedback
- Desire to work as part of a team with a strong focus on client needs
- Excellent communication and listening abilities
- Organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects effectively and on-time
- Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality
