The Role
We are seeking a skilled associate engineer to support the planning, design, and construction of medium and high voltage electric substations and switching stations. The role involves defining project scope and requirements, conducting engineering studies, and preparing cost estimates, schedules, and technical documentation. Responsibilities include thermal rating of substation equipment, ensuring regulatory compliance, and collaborating with internal teams across engineering, drafting, civil, and protection/control disciplines.
The ideal candidate will be highly organized, capable of leading cross-functional teams, proficient in technical communication, and able to manage engineering projects from concept through construction. Strong computer skills and the ability to produce clear, concise technical documentation are essential.

Job Description Summary:

Individual will perform engineering assignments in support of electric substation and switching station construction projects at medium and high voltage levels.

Duties include developing requirements defining the concept, scope, engineering and design aspects of substation and switching station projects. Support the preparation of project cost estimates and schedules, and project budget and authorization documents. Conduct engineering studies involving substation equipment and materials. Perform substation thermal rating supporting transmission and distribution regulatory agencies requirements.

Candidate will work closely with the Engineering, Design and Drafting, Civil Engineering, Protections and Control groups to prepare, review and issue engineering drawings for of both, Capital and Expense projects. Candidate will also provide technical assistance during the construction phase.

The selected candidate must possess the ability to organize engineering projects, work to a schedule and follow-to-completion, communicate with others effectively to lead a multi-disciplinary engineering and design team for substation projects, use computers effectively, and write clearly and concisely.

 

Essential Functions:

Ensures the design and specification of additions, modifications and replacements to the transmission and distribution substations are completed accurately and on time.

Responsible for the development and approval of project scopes, engineering designs, details, material ordering, and cost estimates, as necessary.

Collaborates with other Engineers within Engineering to ensure consistency and teamwork.

Collaborates with other departments such as Protection and Controls, Civil engineering, Distributed Energy Resources, Asset Management, and Plant Accounting to support project planning, technical and financial approvals, and project closeout. 

Accountable for root-cause analysis, development, and implementation of corrective actions.

Responsible for the development of standards and procedures for design, operation, and maintenance of equipment.

Responsible for the development and update of equipment specifications, participation in equipment RFP process, and review/approval of manufacturers’ drawings and documentation.

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Knowledge of utility power systems is preferred.
  • Ability to independently develop, present and execute new projects through collaborations with other departments.
  • Familiarity with power related software is preferred.

 

Education:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • Concentration in Power System is preferred.  

Experience:

  • Zero to three (0-3) years of related experience is required.

Qualifications:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
  • Depending on the specific nature of the engineering role, position may require occasional to significant travel by car. A valid driver’s license is required.

$81,500.00-$90,560.00
