Who we are

Oliver Wyman is shaping the future of the financial services industry by helping the world's top financial institutions address their most significant issues. We have an unparalleled understanding of the evolving market structures, economics, and strategic and regulatory trends across all segments of the financial services sector. Our distinct approach is characterized by deep specialization and rigorous fact-based analysis.

The Practice Group is organized into different practices either serving specific financial services segments (Corporate & Institutional Banking, Retail & Business Banking, Wealth & Asset Management, Insurance) or providing functional expertise across these segments (Finance, Risk & Public Policy).

We continuously strive to be trusted advisors for financial sector leaders, supporting them on their most critical and complex problems and delivering impact and transformations for them. Our portfolio of clients ranges from the top regional banks to investors, capital markets, insurers, central banks, and ministries of finance. Widely recognized as influential thought-leaders, we draw on a deep understanding of our clients' businesses and our own in-depth industry knowledge to develop sustainable strategies and cutting-edge policies for the top companies and governments in the region, working closely with senior executives and top leaders of regional governments.

Our team is seeking extraordinary individuals with deep expertise to support our continued expansion in the financial services industry and to join either our Sydney or Melbourne office.

What you will do

Experienced professionals bring us the know-how to make lasting change for our clients and our company. We position ourselves as a pure player in strategy consulting. We provide deep industry- and discipline-specific knowledge and expertise, which amplifies our impact and helps us shape the future for our clients. Oliver Wyman is a diverse, entrepreneurial, non-competitive partnership of individuals who like to pursue new opportunities or build a unique franchise doing what they do best in a collegial, fun environment.

You will break down complex problems into discrete tasks, identifying the key aspects of a problem and directing the focus of junior consultants to those elements. You will effectively plan and execute analysis as well as identify the core issues in complex analyses in order to be able to craft suitable recommendations. You will work side by side with clients and your project team members to move projects forward and manage small teams to get the work done. Clients and colleagues look to Associates for unique insight into the subject area which they have chosen.

What you will bring

Just as every client project is different, so we recognize and value the diversity of backgrounds and skillsets for successful candidates. We are seeking high-calibre individuals who want to join our winning team. Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • At least 4 -8 years of relevant Financial Services experience, ideally with a top-tier strategy consulting firm (or similar organisation) or with industry experience from a strategy department or inhouse consulting
  • In-depth knowledge of the sector, either gained through experience in the industry or in other consultancy houses
  • Strong analytical and synthesis skills and ability to conduct and leverage sophisticated analyses to identify trends, draw conclusions and present recommendations
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in both formal and informal settings
  • Willingness to travel
  • Know how to take the initiative, seeking out opportunities to learn new skills and put the ones you’ve already got to good use
  • Not just intelligence, but creativity too: you’ll be ready to come up with novel ideas to solve our clients’ biggest problems
  • Have an aptitude for analytical work, like sniffing out clues in massive data sets or hunting down the key issues in a hugely complex challenge
