Work includes debugging I2C/SPI/UART interfaces, using lab equipment, soldering and rework on PCBs, functional testing, documenting results, and collaborating with firmware and mechanical engineers.
Summary Generated by Built In

At Rhoda AI, we’re building the next generation of generalist intelligent robots. We own the full robotics stack from high-performance hardware and robot systems to the infrastructure and state-of-the-art foundation world models that control our robots. Our robots are designed to be generalists capable of operating in complex, real-world environments and handling long-tail edge cases, made possible by our cutting edge research and end-to-end system design. We've raised over $450M and are investing aggressively in model research, infrastructure, hardware development, and manufacturing scale-up to make generalist robotics a reality.

About the Role

We're looking for an enthusiastic Associate Hardware Engineer to join our robotics hardware team. You'll work directly with senior engineers to bring up, test, debug, and refine the electronics that power our robots — from embedded communication buses to power systems and PCB assemblies. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone eager to learn the full stack of hardware development, from the bench to the board.

What You'll Do
  • Support the design, bring-up, and validation of embedded electronics used in robotic systems

  • Debug and troubleshoot communication interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART) between microcontrollers, sensors, and peripherals

  • Use lab equipment — oscilloscopes, programmable power supplies, and DMMs — to test, measure, and validate circuit behavior

  • Perform rework and soldering on PCB assemblies (PCBA), including component-level repairs and modifications

  • Assist with functional testing, board bring-up, and troubleshooting of prototype and production hardware

  • Document test procedures, findings, and design changes clearly for the wider engineering team

  • Collaborate closely with senior hardware, firmware, and mechanical engineers on integrated robot subsystems

  • Continuously learn new tools, test methodologies, and hardware architectures as our robots evolve

What We're Looking For
  • Working knowledge of I2C, SPI, and UART communication protocols

  • Comfort using an oscilloscope, programmable power supply, and DMM for circuit measurement and debugging

  • Hands-on experience with soldering and PCB assembly rework (through-hole and/or SMD)

  • A genuine excitement for learning the hardware fundamentals behind building robots

  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to testing and troubleshooting

  • Good communication skills and a collaborative, team-first attitude

  • Degree (or equivalent hands-on experience) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field

Nice to Have
  • Exposure to embedded C/C++ or microcontroller firmware

  • Experience with PCB design tools (e.g., Altium, KiCad, Eagle)

  • Familiarity with robotics platforms, sensors, or motor control

  • Prior lab, internship, or academic project experience involving hardware bring-up or test

Why Join Us

You'll get direct, hands-on mentorship from experienced hardware engineers, exposure to the full lifecycle of robotic hardware development, and the chance to see your work go from a bench prototype into a working robot. This role is built for someone early in their career who wants to learn fast and grow into a well-rounded hardware engineer.

Skills Required

  • Working knowledge of I2C, SPI, and UART communication protocols
  • Comfort using an oscilloscope, programmable power supply, and DMM
  • Hands-on soldering and PCB assembly rework (through-hole and/or SMD), component-level repairs
  • Experience with board bring-up, functional testing, and troubleshooting prototype and production hardware
  • Document test procedures, findings, and design changes clearly
  • Degree or equivalent hands-on experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to testing and troubleshooting
  • Good communication skills and a collaborative, team-first attitude
  • Genuine excitement for learning hardware fundamentals behind building robots
  • Exposure to embedded C/C++ or microcontroller firmware
  • Experience with PCB design tools (Altium, KiCad, Eagle)
  • Familiarity with robotics platforms, sensors, or motor control
  • Prior lab, internship, or academic project experience involving hardware bring-up or test
