The University of Lynchburg, a private, regional university in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Central Virginia, is seeking applicants for a non tenure-track Associate Director of Westover Honors position beginning in the 2026-27 academic year. We seek an individual with a demonstrated history of excellence as a teacher and mentor who can contribute to our undergraduate programs.
The ideal candidate is eager to engage in a vibrant, student-centered, collaborative environment that fosters engagement with students, colleagues, and alumni. The Westover Honors Community recruits students interested in academic and intellectual success, maintains small class sizes, and provides intentional support throughout the students' time on campus. New students participate in a retreat; we offer intensive advising support; we host multiple student engagement social events throughout the year; we connect with current and former students at annual university events; and we host an annual senior celebration.
Candidates will have the opportunity to take advantage of resources provided by the Teaching and Learning Center for AI Excellence and the Percy Wootton Research Center and will be eligible to apply for internal funds to support travel, scholarly work, faculty-student research, and professional development.
Specific Job Duties:
This is a 12-month administrative faculty position with administrative support and teaching responsibilities, which include:
- Teaching and faculty rank in the Westover Honors program, including general education courses in the associate director’s discipline as well as senior honors projects.
- Collaborating with colleagues on program development and assessment, tracking graduate outcomes, supervising student research projects, new student recruitment, service to the University and community, and engaging in scholarly activity.
- Advising up to 60 Westover Honors students.
- Supporting and attending Westover Honors and university occasions as well as admissions, recruitment, and orientation events.
- Elevating students’ pursuit of academic excellence, including promotion of student research and advising for prestigious awards and scholarships.

Teaching Load:
- The normal teaching load is 15 contact hours per year (which typically equates to a 3-2 course load).

Required Qualifications/Education:
- A PhD or terminal degree (preferred fields include English, philosophy, art, science, or political science).
- A history of excellence in teaching and student mentorship.
