As the Associate Director of Engineering Practices & Workflow in the Enterprise Engineering Enablement organization, you will play a crucial role in enabling and evolving Humana's DevOps and Engineering practices across all IT segments. Your work will enable application teams to have a world-class developer experience while also enabling adherence to enterprise standards and governance for DevOps.

The ideal candidate for this role will need to have a unique mix of leadership experience, proficiency with applying DevOps principles to software delivery, understanding of enabling developers at enterprise scale, and be exceptional at leading people through change. You will need to have the skillset to apply your DevOps and delivery expertise to an entire IT organization and be the catalyst for an enterprise-wide organizational change effort. You will need to be comfortable working within and leading a matrixed team where influence is more important than official reporting structure. Finally, you will need to have a passion for self-service automation, standardization, and processes simplification in order to help streamline software delivery.

Required Qualifications

You will crush this role if:

  • You have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • You have 6 or more years of technical and 1+ years of people leadership experience.

  • You have experience with enterprise-grade engineer platforms similar to Azure DevOps Services, GitHub, SonarQube, Artifactory, TFE or their industry standard equivalents

  • You understand the interaction between Agile and DevOps practices and how maturity in both of these areas will ultimately lead to better outcomes for software delivery teams
  • You have the ability to work in "the gray" space, making consistent progress towards an outcome that will grow more into focus over time
  • You have a passion for data, and use it to inspire people to take action. You don't mind getting hands-on to achieve this outcome
  • You care about feedback loops and are able to receive feedback well, leveraging all kinds of feedback (even negative feedback) to improve processes as well as outcomes
  • You have demonstrated experience leading a team to the deliver software to production by leveraging DevOps practices
  • You are process oriented and have experience putting in place operational team processes to service the needs of a large internal customer base
  • You understand the technical aspects of what good DevOps and engineering practices are well enough to coach other teams and be respected as a subject matter expert across the company
  • You have experience with organizational change management initiatives and are able to engage in authentic conversations with people to lead them towards a successful change outcome
  • You are a strong communicator, a connector, and enjoy a highly agile work environment.  Being the leader for the Engineering Workflow team @ Humana will put you right in the middle of some amazing transformational work

Preferred Qualifications

Bonus Points:

  • You hold a Master's or Doctorate's degree
  • You used to be a software or DevOps engineer, but decided to put down your IDE and become an engineering leader instead (double bonus points if you're still able to sling a little code from time to time)
  • You have experience with cloud technologies, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and emerging DevOps trends like 'GitOps' combined with 'pull' based deployment technologies like Argo and Terraform Enterprise (TFE)
  • You understand how good software engineering practices lead to consistent delivery and are able to translate your experience into standards and automation
  • You are familiar with the DORA metrics, and understand how improving them can help an organization achieve successful DevOps outcomes
  • You have a working knowledge of progressive deployment automation strategies like feature flags, canary, and blue/green deployments
  • You have experience integrating automated test tools, frameworks, and practices into a development team workflow

Work Location:

  • Home base is Louisville, KY
  • Remote & Flexible Work Arrangements Available

Reporting Information:

  • You'll report to the Director of Enterprise DevOps and Enterprise Engineering Enablement
  • You'll be part of Enterprise Engineering Services organization, the L3 Engineering organization within Technology Strategy

To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees’ ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria:
At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is required; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested.
Satellite, cellular and microwave connection can be used only if approved by leadership.
Employees who live and work from Home in the state of California, Illinois, Montana, or South Dakota will be provided a bi-weekly payment for their internet expense.
Humana will provide Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees with telephone equipment appropriate to meet the business requirements for their position/job.
Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.


 

$142,300 - $195,700 per year


 

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
