Summary: Provides leadership and administrative support for the Community Wellness Division and assists in the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of division-wide operations, programs, facilities, personnel, and community initiatives. Working closely with the Director of Community Wellness, this position supports the effective delivery of youth development, wellness, recreation, fitness, aquatics, prevention, and community engagement services. Promotes organizational excellence through leadership, collaboration, operational oversight, strategic planning, staff development, and continuous improvement efforts. Serves as a member of the division leadership team and works collaboratively with managers, supervisors, Tribal departments, community partners, and external organizations to advance the mission, vision, and goals of the Community Wellness Division.

 

Education Requirements and Experience:

 Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Organizational Leadership, Recreation Management, Health Promotion, Community Development, Education, or a related field.

Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory, management, and administrative experience.

Experience supervising staff, coordinating programs, managing organizational initiatives, and supporting operational functions.

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Experience working within Tribal Government or Tribal organizations.

Experience in youth development, recreation management, wellness programming, community development, public health, or related fields.

Experience with strategic planning, policy development, grant administration, and organizational leadership.

Experience overseeing multiple programs, facilities, or operational areas.

 

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

 Demonstrates leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, and public presentation skills.
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff, community members, partner organizations, and Tribal leadership.

Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and organizational accountability.

Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and organizational software systems.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and independent decision-making.
Understanding and sensitivity to Native American culture.
Maintain confidentiality and high-level professional ethics at all times.

Pre-employment drug testing is mandatory for all Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe safety sensitive positions.

 

Supervisory Duties:

Supervises and provides leadership to staff as directed by the Community Wellness Director.

Additional supervisory responsibilities may be assigned as needed.


Duties/Responsibilities:

 Assist in the coordination and oversight of division operations, programs, services, and facilities.
Support managers and supervisory staff in achieving departmental goals, objectives, and performance expectations.
Assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of strategic plans, annual work plans, operational goals, and performance measures.
Coordinate and monitor division projects, initiatives, partnerships, and special assignments.
Support staff recruitment, onboarding, training, mentoring, and professional development efforts.
Assist in developing and maintaining policies, procedures, operational standards, and best practices.

Monitor operational performance and recommend improvements that enhance service delivery, efficiency, participation, and community impact.
Support the development and implementation of division budgets, operational plans, and resource management strategies.
Coordinate reporting requirements, program documentation, performance metrics, and administrative records.
Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with Tribal departments, schools, healthcare providers, community organizations, funding partners, and external stakeholders.
Represent the division at meetings, trainings, conferences, community events, and collaborative initiatives as assigned.
Assist in identifying opportunities for program enhancement, partnership development, grant opportunities, and organizational growth.
Promote a positive organizational culture focused on service, accountability, professionalism, innovation, and community wellness.
Respond to operational challenges, programmatic needs, community concerns, and organizational priorities in a timely and professional manner.
Travel in and out of state as required.
Understanding and sensitivity to Native American culture.
Adhere to LLBO policies governing staff conduct.
Perform other duties as assigned
.


Physical Requirements:

 Sedentary to light work.
Occasional lifting, carrying, and movement of materials up to 50 pounds.
Subject to internal and external working conditions.
Travel may be required.
Non-smoking environment.
