Salary & Benefits

Salary commensurate with experience.

Fifteen (15) days paid vacation in the first year, increasing to 24 days after 6 years of employment, plus 5 paid “personal and sick days” each year. In addition, approximately two weeks company-wide break over Christmas/New Year. Japanese social insurance and pension, commuting/telework allowance, a welfare-discount program membership, and retirement payment system.


Overview of position

The Associate Director of Accessibility Services provides functional leadership and contributes to the strategic direction of accessibility services at TUJ. This role leads faculty engagement and training, manages complex accommodation cases, and ensures consistent, high-quality service delivery.


Working within a small team, the Associate Director maintains a caseload that includes both standard and complex cases, while providing oversight of operations, communication, and cross-department collaboration.


Primary Responsibilities

1. Accommodation Administration & Case Oversight

  • Conduct intake and manage a caseload, including standard and complex cases
  • Review documentation and make final determinations on accommodation eligibility
  • Interpret policy in complex or unclear situations
  • Lead resolution of complex cases (e.g., attendance, disputes, implementation challenges)
  • Ensure consistency and quality across accommodation decisions and documentation

2. Faculty Engagement & Training

  • Lead development and delivery of faculty training on accessibility and accommodations
  • Serve as primary point of contact for complex or escalated faculty concerns
  • Advise faculty, chairs, and academic leadership on accommodation implementation
  • Promote accessible teaching practices in collaboration with Digital Education

3. Operations & Quality Oversight

  • Provide day-to-day functional leadership for accessibility services operations
  • Ensure consistency in processes, communication, and documentation
  • Identify and implement improvements to workflow and operational efficiency
  • Lead internal coordination, including staff meetings and task prioritization

4. Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Ensure clear communication within the department
  • Serve as primary contact for key stakeholders, including faculty and campus partners
  • Lead collaboration with academic departments and administrative units

5. Data, Systems & Supervision

  • Oversee use of systems (e.g., Symplicity Accommodate)
  • Monitor data and trends to support decision-making and reporting
  • Supervise and provide guidance to staff and student employees supporting accessibility services
  • Coordinate team workflows, priorities, and daily operations

6. Cross-Campus Collaboration & Student Support

  • Lead coordination with Main Campus Disability Resources and Services (DRS)
  • Serve on the TUJ CARE Team
  • Partner with advising, counseling, and other units to support students in complex situations

7. Strategic Planning & Development

  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean / VP of Digital Education and Learning Resources to support the strategic direction of accessibility services
  • Identify priorities and opportunities to improve accessibility practices across the institution
  • Contribute to development of initiatives related to faculty engagement, digital accessibility, and service delivery
  • Support long-term planning aligned with institutional goals

8. Professional Development

  • Stay current with accessibility laws, best practices, and emerging trends

9. Other Duties as Assigned


Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 4–6+ years of experience in accessibility services or related field
  • Strong knowledge of disability laws and accommodation practices
  • Ability to interpret policy and apply judgment in complex situations
  • Excellent communication skills, including handling sensitive or escalated situations
  • Experience managing complex accommodation cases and working with faculty required
  • Ability to lead training and engage faculty effectively
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a small team environment
  • Proficiency with LMS platforms and accessibility tools (Canvas, Accommodate preferred)
  • Experience leading training or initiatives preferred
