Job Description

So, who are we?

IG is a FTSE 100 fintech operating across five continents, serving over 1.3m customers and handling billions of dollars in transactions – built on scale, trust, and proof. We didn't pivot to innovation; it's how we've always operated. What that means for the people who work here is real: genuinely complex problems to solve, the technology and resources to tackle them properly, and the kind of scope that's rare in established businesses. The bar is high – bring a curious and forward-thinking mindset and we'll give you the platform to define what comes next. Join us at IG – the future gets built here.

Your team

Are you passionate about delivering real value to an organisation using advanced techniques in data science and machine learning? We are looking for an associate data scientist to work in our Data Science team.

The team works across the data science lifecycle, combining deep analysis, experimentation and advanced machine learning to drive measurable business impact. You will work closely with Senior Data Scientists & stakeholders across marketing, risk, product and operations to turn complex problems into actionable insights and scalable data products.

Your role in the Team's Success

Data Science is fast‑growing at IG and we are continuously refining how it delivers value to the business. Demand for our work is high, and we are on a journey to move from isolated use‑cases toward consistently delivering high‑impact insights, experimentation and models that influence decision‑making at scale.

What you'll do

  • Work on high‑impact data science projects, from problem framing and exploratory analysis through modelling, experimentation and working with colleagues to deploy to production

  • Build predictive models which enables IG to better understand it’s clients

  • Apply statistical analysis and experimentation (e.g. A/B testing, causal inference) to generate insights that inform product, commercial and risk decisions

  • Learn from Senior Team members with strong Technical and Business expertise

  • Explore a wide variety of structured and unstructured data spanning client, operational and financial domains to identify opportunities for data science to add value

  • Learn to build and evolve advanced data products & insights using state‑of‑the‑art techniques, including recommendation systems, ensemble methods, NLP and text analytics, time‑series forecasting, predictive analytics, and generative AI use‑cases

  • Monitor model quality, design experiments and track against hypotheses

  • Advance the use of AI within IG by combining strong analytical foundations with modern machine learning approaches

  • With support from the team, learn to work closely with stakeholders to translate business questions into clear analytical hypotheses, measurable outcomes and practical solutions

What you'll need for this role

You are a thinker who enjoys tackling ambiguous problems. You should have:

  • Some experience using Python and ideally SQL

  • A core understanding of Mathematics & Statistics, and how those concepts can be used to build predictive models

  • Strong quantitative skills, typically evidenced by a degree in Mathematics, Statistics or Engineering (usually at 2:1 level or above) or through equivalent professional experience

  • A keen interest in problem solving

  • The ability to communicate analytical concepts clearly and effectively to non‑technical stakeholders

  • Some experience in generating insight from complex, imperfect and large‑scale data sources

  • The ability to think on your feet. IG is moving at pace and our data and working environment is not always perfect. You need a hunger to succeed despite that

How we work

We try to take a thoughtful approach to our ways of working as a company. We follow a hybrid working model with 3 days in the office (located near Bank station) -- which we think balances the need to collaborate effectively and connect with each other. When it comes to how we deliver, there are 5 things we want everyone to do to drive high performance, better learning and career satisfaction:

  • Lead and Inspire: Drives trust, alignment, and enthusiasm

  • Think Big: Focus on the problems that most impact commercial outcomes

  • Champion the client: Understand and prioritise client's needs

  • Deliver at pace: Push for fast, sustainable growth;

  • Raise the bar: Take ownership, be accountable and share feedback

We believe that diversity is vital to success, it fuels creativity, drives innovation and sets us up for global success. We're committed to building teams with a variety of perspectives and skills to help us realise our vision and strategy, that's why we encourage applications from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences to join us on this journey.
