The role of Associate Data Engineer is really important to us.
We're looking for someone with a minimum 12 months commercial experience in a Data Engineering role, including knowledge with both Python and SQL.
This role is based in our Group Data Services & Reporting (DS&R) function.
DS&R is the hub within a data hub and spoke operating model, so we work closely with business analyst teams as well as directly with stakeholders in the UK and across the globe. DS&R supports all 8 divisions in Radius giving you a wide exposure to a range of departments, challenges and business models.
As an Associate Data Engineer you will be responsible for designing and building new data pipelines; modelling & transforming data ready for business insight and extending & transforming our data platform & data service capabilities. The DS&R Data Analyst team will then use your modelled datasets to deliver reporting and insight to Radius.
As well as your technical expertise, you will work with stakeholders to map requirements, understand business processes and manage small projects to support your data pipeline delivery.
This role is based from head office in Crewe, Cheshire. The onsite facilities are excellent, including gym, changing rooms, café, barista bar, and multiple breakout areas.
What you'll be doing...
- Design and build new integrations into platforms and systems not currently integrated into our Group Data Warehouse. This typically involves technical design, architecture considerations & monitoring solutions.
- Model and transform data within the AWS Data Warehouse / Databricks / Other tooling, applying business definitions where needed to prepare datasets ready for fast and accurate business consumption.
- Provide broader data service & integration solutions for the Group.
- Collaborate within the DS&R team as well as outside the team; work directly with stakeholders gathering and steering requirements; manage your work & projects and document all solutions.
- Support the Data Service Desk on a team rota basis during business hours to provide quick dev solutions and advice to business teams (4-8h per week).
What we're looking for...
This role will not be suitable for entry-level or graduate candidates. We're looking for you to bring 1-2 years’ experience as a Data Engineer working in a cloud-based data landscape.
Your skills and experience should include:
- Our ETL processes are code based, so expertise in Python and SQL is essential.
- Analytical and critical in your thinking; rigorous in the quality and accuracy of your work and curious to understand the business that sits in front of the data we manage and transform.
- Comfortable working with stakeholders who may have partially defined requirements and differing opinions and be ready to help guide and shape teams towards the best solution
- An appreciation that that a data solution is only successful if it is adopted and delivers value.
