Position Purpose:

Work collaboratively with a small team of editors to create high quality, literary student books for the school market. Responsible for editorial duties as well as providing editorial support in a variety of capacities. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with and support product development, particularly student book development, as requested including but not limited to: 
  • Review all stages of student’s books from concepts to layouts
  • Participate in concepting book ideas
  • Edit and refine outlines, manuscripts, and layouts in developmental rounds
  • Collaborate and communicate with authors, illustrators, and agents, as well as the in-house editorial team
  • Conduct research as requested
  • Create and maintain photo logs
  • Track and traffic manuscripts through a variety of rounds
  • Create, update, and maintain product metadata
  • Help with assignment of ISBNs
  • Help run reports from the Product Manager database
  • Help with QAing of print and digital product, as requested
  • Assist Marketing/Sales by providing information or PDFs/other as requested 
  • Review and evaluate competitive products from companies 

Job Requirements/Skills and Experience:

  • College degree, B.A. in English, education, or a related field a plus (M.A. a real plus)  
  • Superior writing, editing, and project management skills 
  • Some knowledge of book development is a plus, but an interest and a willingness to learn is essential
  • Current knowledge of language, literacy, and instructional content issues a plus
  • Intermediate-Advanced proficiency, MS Office 
  • Basic proficiency, Adobe Creative Suite is preferred 
  • Comfortable juggling several projects concurrently 
  • Able to work collaboratively with all departments (e.g., editorial, design, and marketing) 
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills  
  • Teaching experience is a plus 

Salary Range: $50,000-$60,000

*The base salary range represents the low and high end of the expected salary range for the position. The base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors such as geographic location, experience, education, and skill level.
