What You Will Be Doing
 

CIBC’s Global Markets business focuses on delivering expert financial and economic analysis and savvy deal-making capabilities to clients in Canada and around the world. The Global Markets team supports fixed income, foreign exchange, commodities, derivatives, equities, and growth markets and is focused on building a strong, innovative relationship-oriented bank.

Within CIBC Global Markets, the Alternate Solutions Group (ASG) was launched in 2013 with a mandate to develop innovative and creative technology-driven capital markets solutions. This group is an unconventional capital markets organization that combines the innovative spirit and agility of a FinTech startup with the financial strength and strong governance protocol of a major financial institution. ASG has been recognized as a global leader in providing disruptive technological capital markets solutions in several product areas including Cross Border Payments, Dynamic Currency Conversion, and Foreign Cash . ASG’s client base stretches from some of the largest banks in the world, to corporates to CIBC’s retail clients.

We are hiring on the Global Payment  Services (GPS) team, a leading  product in ASG. GPS offers Retail & Corporate clients the ability to send and receive funds globally in their preferred payment method and currency.

How You'll Succeed

  • Data Engineering, Development and Delivery: You will play a crucial role in clearly communicating goals to stakeholders and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, design, and risk partners. You will translate business requirements into actionable user stories and specifications, facilitating sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives to ensure that the development team remains aligned and focused on delivering high-quality features. By monitoring product performance metrics and user feedback, you will leverage insights to drive continuous improvement and innovation. Your efforts will maximize the value of our products through development work, identifying ways to drive efficiencies and scale with every release. Additionally, you will support discussions with risk partners to align on requirements and approvals essential for successful development.

  • Advancing the Data Analytics Pipeline: You will collaborate with Product teams to distill feedback into prioritized features and enhancements that drive new revenue streams and operational efficiencies. You will identify new use cases and revenue opportunities through team interactions and market analysis, while analyzing the market and competitive solutions to design best-in-class offerings. Your ability to effectively communicate the unique value proposition of your work will be essential, as will your assessment of new technology platforms and tools to support the design of scalable and stable systems.

  • Leveraging Analytical Skills: You will utilize data analytics tools to identify, analyze, and interpret patterns in complex data sets, providing actionable insights and recommendations that inform product strategy. You will monitor and track product performance and client portfolio metrics, responding proactively to any anomalies and trends that arise. Additionally, you will conduct comprehensive research to identify business trends and opportunities that align with our product development goals.

  • Collaboration and Team Support: You will foster a collaborative environment by supporting and mentoring your team members through knowledge sharing and effective problem-solving. You will build strong internal relationships with stakeholders to ensure alignment and support for product initiatives. Additionally, you will establish clear context and direction when assigning work to your team, ensuring that everyone is aligned with the product goals and objectives.

Who You Are

  • You have an undergraduate university degree in STEM (Computer Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) or related fields.

  • You can demonstrate a strong understanding of technology, foreign exchange, payments, and capital markets. 

  • You can demonstrate 1-2 years of experience in data science,  data analytics,  or in a similar role.

  • You thrive in a fast-paced environment. You’re able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, high-pressure, results-oriented work environment.

  • You are tech savvy. You have the ability to independently pull, manipulate, and manage large datasets from enterprise-level relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL); very strong in data cleaning, transformation, and preparation using Python (libraries such as pandas, numpy etc.) or R.

  • You give meaning to data. You have demonstrated experience in machine learning / AI modelling workflow and  building insightful dashboards using PowerBI. It is an asset if you are familiar with common AI frameworks such TensorFlow, PyTorch or Scikit-Learn.
