Position Description:

The Associate, Charitable Compliance supports and administers Ren’s charitable compliance program by executing compliance testing, maintaining documentation, identifying and recommending process improvements, and supporting regulatory compliance activities. This position relies on independent compliance reviews, documentation, and exception identification, in collaboration with policy and process owners and internal stakeholders, to strengthen compliance practices across Ren and its charitable clients and partners (DAF sponsors, community and faith-based foundations, and operating charities).

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support §4966 and §4967 compliance testing and monitoring — compile and document facts on taxable distributions, prohibited benefits, and donor-advisor designations for review by the Sr. Manager and Sr. Director.
  • Support review of §170 substantiation for complex asset contributions — checking qualified appraiser and qualified appraisal documentation for adequacy, including IRS Forms 8283 and 8282; report inconsistencies and follow up to ensure issues are rectified.
  • Assist with review of policies of clients and partners — including gift acceptance, investment policy statements (including UPMIFA prudent-investor considerations), and granting policies; assist with developing, updating, or improving policies and procedures to ensure they are current, effective, and aligned with legal, tax, and organizational requirements.
  • Support Sr. Director, Charitable Compliance and Sr. Manager, Charitable Compliance with research on IRS, Treasury, and state-level developments affecting DAFs, sponsors, foundations and operating charities.
  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and updating compliance testing methodologies, processes, procedures, workbooks, and templates, including documentation of exceptions and remediation tracking.
  • Assist in developing reporting to stakeholders on compliance testing results; make recommendations on policy and process improvements and follow up to ensure any issues have been remediated.
  • Support and assist Sr. Director, Charitable Compliance and Sr. Manager, Charitable Compliance with client deliverables and presentations.
  • Assist Legal Team and the Sr. Manager, Charitable Compliance with state charitable registrations, including coordinating with third-party vendors to annually file state charitable registrations; conduct annual audits of state charitable registrations to confirm accuracy and good standing.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders across Ren.
  • Use established and approved AI tools to improve compliance testing and reporting.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in business, finance, accounting, public administration, nonprofit management, legal studies, or a related field.
  • Advanced degree or professional certification a plus — MBA, MPA, MAcc, Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), CRM (Certified Risk Manager), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), RIMS-CRMP (RIMS-Certified Risk Management Professional), or Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP).
  • 2+ years of experience in compliance, audit, risk management, nonprofit organizations, charitable services, financial services, legal or regulatory compliance, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with IRC §§4966, 4967, 170, and 501(c)(3); awareness of UPMIFA helpful.
  • Experience supporting compliance testing, monitoring, documentation, policies, procedures, or internal controls.
  • Strong analytical, research, and written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to organize documentation, identify exceptions, and follow up on remediation.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic regulatory environment.
  • Experience using technology and AI-enabled tools to support compliance, documentation, research, and reporting while exercising sound professional judgment.
