Accessing Potential Through Assistive Technology (APT AT), a program of the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services and contracting partner of United Ability, is seeking an Assistive Technology Program Assistant. Primary duties include but are not limited to maintaining the APT AT device inventory; supporting professional staff during demonstrations, trainings, or events; and responding to information requests. In addition, the program assistant will perform essential data entry tasks, support lending library activities, and collaborate with staff to ensure seamless program operations. This full-time position offers a one-year renewable contract, based on funding, and plays a crucial role in improving access to AT solutions for individuals with disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support for APT AT Program: Serve as a key team member in supporting the APT AT program operations.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee the AT lending library, tracking and managing the inventory of devices to ensure they are well-maintained and ready for short-term loans.
  • Device Setup & Maintenance: Set up, test, and maintain AT devices to ensure they are in proper working order before and after loans. Address technical issues as needed to ensure devices are fully functional.
  • Customer Support & Information Requests: Respond to inquiries regarding the APT AT program and assistive technology resources, providing clear and timely information to families, educators, and service providers.
  • Program Event Support: Assist program staff with organizing and executing events, workshops, and training sessions. Prepare AT devices for demonstrations and assist participants as needed during events.
  • Data Entry & Record Keeping: Perform accurate and timely data entry to track inventory, device loans, and program-related activities. Maintain comprehensive records and ensure data integrity using program-specific tracking systems.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with APT AT staff to ensure smooth operations and communication within the program. Collaborate on initiatives to improve access to assistive technology and raise awareness of its benefits.

General qualifications include:

  • GED/High School diploma required
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent oral, written, and electronic communication skills required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, strong Excel skills
  • Technical aptitude for troubleshooting and setting up assistive technology devices
  • Ability to lift 60 lbs
  • Ability to work independently
  • A valid driver’s license and must be able to pass motor vehicle screening
  • Some overnight travel required

This role is part of APT AT - a program of the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services providing services to the state of Alabama. We are federally funded through the 21st Century Assistive Technology Act. Our program serves as a lead resource in the state with the purpose of increasing knowledge of and access to assistive technology. We leverage additional funding which may change daily tasks and overall program initiatives.
