The department covers Cyber Security, Information Security, IT Audit, IT Risks, IT Controls, Access Management and the portfolio for change for all these areas.

NUMBER OF DIRECT REPORTS

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE 

The purpose of this role is to lead the Threat Hunting activities for the EMEA region by proactively identifying, hunting and detecting cyber threats across MUFG systems and environments. The role is accountable for establishing and maturing a threat hunting programme and detection engineering capabilities, ensuring alignment with global strategy, and strengthening the overall cyber defence posture through close collaboration with security operations, technology and intelligence teams

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Accountable for leading and managing threat hunting operations covering the EMEA region, ensuring programmes are intelligence-led, continuous and effective in detecting cyber threats across the MUFG Group.

·         Responsible for collaborating with the Global Threat Hunting Centre of Excellence to ensure consistency of methodologies, frameworks and execution across regions.

·         Accountable for implementing detection as code as a core principle of the threat hunting programme, including building and overseeing automated detection engineering pipelines to improve speed, scale and coverage across on-premise and cloud environments.

·         Responsible for working with regional and global leads to continuously assess and improve the maturity of threat hunting and detection engineering practices, including the introduction of advanced analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities where appropriate.

·         Accountable for providing executive-level reporting to EMEA management, including programme maturity assessments, threat hunting outcomes, and overall detection and security posture, supported by clear metrics and quality assurance measures.

·         Responsible for developing and maintaining global metrics and quality assurance processes to measure effectiveness, coverage and maturity of the threat hunting and detection engineering programme.

·         Responsible for ensuring continuous professional development of the team by promoting education and awareness of current and emerging attacker techniques, tactics and procedures.

·         Responsible for operating effectively as part of a global team across multiple time zones, jurisdictions and regulatory environments.

·         Responsible for close collaboration with related security operations teams, including threat intelligence, digital forensics, incident response and red team functions, to strengthen end-to-end security operations.

·         Responsible for providing thought leadership on global initiatives related to threat detection, log collection strategies and security monitoring architecture.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Essential

Significant experience in threat hunting, digital forensics and incident response within a financial institution or similarly complex global environment, with hands-on leadership of threat hunting or detection engineering teams.

Preferred

Experience operating in a global organisation with distributed teams across multiple regions and familiarity with large-scale security monitoring platforms and cloud environments.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Functional / Technical Competencies:

Essential

·         Deep expertise in threat hunting and detection engineering practices.

·         Strong working knowledge of established threat hunting frameworks, including PEAK and TAHITI.

·         Proven ability to design, implement and mature proactive detection capabilities across diverse technology environments.

·         Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to present complex security topics to senior management.

Preferred

·         Experience applying advanced analytics, automation, artificial intelligence or machine learning to security monitoring and threat detection.

Education / Qualifications

·   Essential

·   Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information security or a related discipline.

·   Preferred

·   Professional security certifications, including advanced incident response, threat hunting or digital forensics qualifications.
