Job Title: Assistant Station Manager 

 

Location:  Forest Preserve 

 

Pay Range: $21.00 - $22.50 

 

POSITION PURPOSE:  

This position is responsible for assisting the station manager in the overall direction and coordination of a vehicle emissions testing station, in accordance with company objectives, policies, procedures and applicable laws.    

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Assist the station manager in the overall operation of the testing facility in accordance with established policies and procedures, while promoting exceptional customer service.  This includes: 

  • Manage and coordinate the operation of the station in the absence of the station manager 
  • Assisting with station voucher activity and ensuring that all funds are accounted for and properly reconciled 
  • Performing emissions testing during busy times to help mitigate wait times 
  • Maintaining testing equipment and reporting problems to technical support as needed 
  • Ensure that all customer complaints and damage claims are documented, and appropriately resolved in the absence of the station manager 
  • Ensuring station complies with all safety requirements in accordance with the company’s Incident and Accident Reporting Procedures.  If incidents occur, promptly investigate and submit required incident reporting paperwork. 
  • Coordinating general facility maintenance such as cleaning, snow shoveling, and other basic janitorial tasks 

 

Provide assistance with the management of the station remitter program and ensure that all funds are accounted for and properly reconciled which includes: 

  • Receive and properly secure remitter certificate inventory 
  • Process remitter transactions – debit, credit, voids and refunds  
  • Provides training on station remitter program – including how to use the remitter application and payment processing terminal  

Assist with manpower needs of the station by leading and managing staff members.  This includes:  

  • Creating a working environment that generates high employee morale and productivity 
  • Scheduling, assigning, and directing work to meet performance standards and contract requirements  
  • Selecting, coaching, training, and managing performance of team.  
  • Evaluating employees by providing constructive feedback, counseling and documenting appropriately.  
  • Conducting new hire and annual performance reviews in established timeframes 
  • Enforcing Program dress code to ensure professional employee and station appearance  
  • Assist the station manager in meeting the overt auditing requirement  
  • Perform waiver inspections on all applicable vehicles, and grants waivers according to IEPA guidelines  
  • Travels to other stations as needed to provide management and staffing support 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the station manager

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 

  • Ability to learn and understand the function of selected emissions control devices  
  • Ability to work independently   
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal  
  • Good time management and teambuilding skills  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills 
  • Commitment to providing outstanding customer service and satisfaction 
  • Ability to interact professionally with a diverse population in a variety of situations 
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook  
  • Able to enter and exit customer vehicles and stoop, bend, and reach 
  • Able to work in extreme weather conditions  

 

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent  
  • Previous vehicle inspection experience is preferred 
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
