The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office is seeking an experienced felony trial attorney ready to take on high-stakes prosecutions and play a critical role in protecting our community. This position is built for attorneys who thrive in the courtroom, take ownership of complex cases, and are driven by the pursuit of justice.
You’ll handle significant felony matters—from charging decisions through verdict—working alongside a team that values preparation, professionalism, and trial excellence.
What You’ll Do
- Lead prosecution of serious and high-profile felony cases from start to finish
- Serve as first chair in jury trials and evidentiary hearings
- Make strategic charging decisions and guide investigations
- Work closely with law enforcement, victims, and expert witnesses
- Draft and argue substantive motions and appellate-ready briefs
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of felony trial experience, with meaningful jury trial exposure
- Licensed to practice law in Illinois
- A lawyer who wants to be in trial—and is confident standing there
- Strong judgment, case ownership, and the ability to manage a demanding caseload
- Clear, persuasive communicator in both written and oral advocacy

- Salary: Starting at $120,000, commensurate with experience
