Summary: The Assistant Safety Manager is responsible for communicating and supporting the implementation of accident prevention, risk assessment, safety and environmental policies and procedures for the Site. The Assistant Safety Manager will work closely with the operations team to promote a visible Safety management presence and ensure a safe working environment for the assigned location(s).
Essential Duties:
- Communicate, implement, and monitor the risk assessment/accident prevention and safety programs in accordance with Company policies and government regulations.
- Supports the continuous improvement of the Safety Training program.
- Ensures that all Gateway Terminals policies and procedures are communicated properly to the operations team and managed effectively in the day-to-day operation of the Site.
- Provides training and follow up to ensure that reports are completed accurately and timely.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships to deliver continuous and tangible improvements in HS&E performance.
- Participates in and when necessary, lead investigations to determine root cause of accidents/injuries and assist with the development of appropriate corrective and preventative measures.
- Conducts regular inspections monitoring area safety and environmental practices. Addresses violations appropriately when required.
- Coordinates and conducts accident prevention/safety training programs as needed.
- Assists HS&E Assistant Managers in developing and achieving safety/accident prevention goals annually and participates in monthly safety meeting as well as ARC.
- Identifies safety equipment requirements and communicates to appropriate members of the leadership.
- Performs other related duties as required.

- Requires the availability to work varied hours and shifts including days, nights and holidays as needed.
Working Conditions:
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, and occasional sitting.
- The ability to climb up and down a stair and equipment.
- The ability to work in changing hot and cold climates based on weather conditions.
- The ability to work in an environment with moving objects and machinery; the environment may be hazardous to persons unable to see or hear fast moving heavy equipment.

QualificationsMinimum Requirements (Education, Experience, Certifications):
- Four (4) year college degree in Health, Safety & Security, Supply Chain Logistics, Operations Management, or another related field, required.
- 1 – 3 years’ experience in Terminal Operations Management at the Superintendent or Operations Manager level, required.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Ability to obtain and retain a TWIC Card issued by the Department of Homeland Security and Georgia Port Authority pass, required.
- A valid Driver’s License in good standing is required.
Skills Required
- Four year college degree in Health, Safety & Security, Supply Chain Logistics, Operations Management, or related field
- 1-3 years experience in Terminal Operations Management at the Superintendent or Operations Manager level
- Ability to obtain and retain a TWIC Card and Georgia Port Authority pass
- Valid Driver's License in good standing
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
