WINGS Program is looking for an Assistant Safe House Manager to streamline the operation of our Chicago Safe House and help to create a comfortable & safe environment for our clients. This is a regular, full-time, salary exempt position. By overseeing daily operations and working together with team members, the Assistant Safe House Manager is a vital part of making our safehouse a safe home for families and individuals fleeing domestic violence. Through leadership, problem solving, and most importantly compassion, this position has the opportunity to make sure the Safe House, employees, and those who call it home, the best they can possibly be.

Objective: This position is responsible for maintaining the smooth operation of the Safe House to ensure services are delivered in an environment that is safe, clean, and comfortable. Working with the Safe House Manager, this position oversees daily operations of the Safe House and Crisis Line and works with the rest of the team to support direct client services.

Key responsibilities:

· Oversee day-to-day operations of the Safehouse including: supervision, training and scheduling of House Advocates, volunteers and assigned interns; assist in processing and storing donations; conduct and approve intake and eligibility evaluations; ensure building is safe, secure and sanitary and coordinate and oversee activities related to policies and procedures

· Oversee day-to-day operations of the Crisis Line and participate in providing intervention, counseling, education, safety planning and referrals to its callers

· Support Safehouse guests by providing emotional support, modeling skills of daily living, assisting with case management, conducting conflict resolution and crisis intervention as needed, and assisting with support groups

· Work with the Safehouse Team to provide a continuum of services and to ensure that guest needs are met

· Responsible for the maintenance of timely, accurate records including up-to-date client files, statistics report, and census

· Teach and/or assist in supervising the WINGS 40-hour domestic violence training and other classes that provide CEUs as required

· In the absence of the Safehouse Manager, ensure staff are supported and have the resources to perform their jobs

· Perform additional duties typically performed by the Safehouse Manager as requested

· Uphold standards for proper food safety

· Attend and participate in all required meetings and trainings

· Immediately report child abuse to Department of Children and Family Services as mandated by law and in accordance with agency procedures

· Evening, weekend, overnight, and holidays are required to ensure the complete staffing of our 24-hour facility

· On-call for Safe House emergencies, staff questions and staff absences as needed

· Perform additional responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree in social service, closely related field, or equivalent work experience required

· 2 years of supervisory experience and experience working with clients with domestic violence, homelessness, mental health issues and/or substance abuse required

· 40-hour domestic violence training preferred

· CPR & First Aid Certification preferred

· ICDVP credential preferred

· Food Safety and Sanitation Certification preferred

· Bilingual Spanish preferred

· Must be a strong team player, able to successfully interface with varied personalities and temperaments, and relate sensitively to people of varied social, economic, racial, cultural, and experiential backgrounds

· Possess the ability to work efficiently and independently and be highly organized with attention to detail along with strong project management, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

· Skilled in working with sensitive issues and in maintaining professional boundaries with clients.

· Excellent working knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office Suite

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in social service, closely related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience and experience working with clients affected by domestic violence, homelessness, mental health issues, and/or substance abuse
  • Excellent working knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to handle crisis situations, including crisis intervention and conflict resolution
