Assistant Professor of Psychology

The Psychology Department at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville invites applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor in clinical or counseling psychology with an anticipated start date of August 2027. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses such as Techniques of Counseling, Advanced Techniques of Counseling, General Psychology, and additional courses aligned with their area of expertise, engage in research and professional activity, and contribute to university and departmental service.

The primary responsibility will be teaching undergraduate courses in psychology, such as General Psychology, Techniques of Counseling, Advanced Techniques of Counseling, Psychopathology, and other courses related to the candidates’ expertise.

Other responsibilities include:

• Sharing the coordination of the undergraduate practicum program.

• Initiating a program of research and professional activity (preferably involving undergraduate students).

• Engaging in academic advising.

• Participating in department, college, university and community service and outreach activities.

Faculty are also expected to participate in curriculum development, assessment, and revisions.

Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in counseling or clinical psychology, or a closely related field (degree must be conferred within one year of the position start date).

• Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills appropriate to the responsibilities of the position.

• Experience teaching at least one semester of undergraduate-level course in a higher education setting.

• Demonstrated scholarly or professional productivity appropriate to the discipline, evidenced by presentations and/or publications.

Our department comprises seven tenure track and 1.4 instructional academic staff positions.  We have approximately 170 majors and graduate roughly 40 students a year, most of whom are interested in careers in human services and mental health.
