The Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music at the University of Memphis invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Oboe, beginning Fall 2027. The successful candidate will be an artist-level performer and teacher with a proven record of recruiting and student success.
Responsibilities- Teach applied oboe lessons, reed making, and pedagogy at the undergraduate levels.
- Coach chamber ensembles.
- Actively recruit, mentor, and retain oboe students; maintain an active and engaged studio.
- Collaborate and perform with the School of Music faculty.
- Teach coursework in an additional area (e.g., music theory, music history, etc.).
- Maintain regional., national, and international visibility through performing and teaching engagements.
- Serve on and/or chair doctoral committees.
- Master's degree in oboe performance (or closely related field) required; doctorate preferred
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching applied oboe at the college level
- Extensive experience as a soloist, chamber musician, and/or orchestral musician
- Ability and desire to teach in an area outside of oboe
