Wofford College’s History Department is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Modern Asian History to begin fall 2027.


EXPECTATIONS


Wofford’s faculty teach a 3-1-3 load. The “1” indicates the January “Interim” term, during which professors may travel with students or teach on a variety of topics using experiential teaching methods. All department members are expected to advise students on a regular basis. They are also expected to be present for regular departmental activities and to help with college-wide service work. Wofford faculty are teacher-scholars with a focus on undergraduate teaching and advising and a commitment to the liberal arts.


QUALIFICATIONS


A PhD in History or Asian Studies is required by the beginning of the appointment. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience at the collegiate level. The successful candidate will be expected to teach upper-division courses on modern Asian history (defined as the nineteenth and twentieth centuries), and also a survey of Modern East Asia history as well as another broad survey class. In addition, the candidate will be expected to regularly teach a LIBA seminar aimed at first-year students.
