What You’ll Do

As Assistant Production Coordinator, you’ll play a key role in the highly responsible position involving technical work in the operation and supervision of the auditorium. Lead and drive innovation in areas including set construction, technical operation of lighting and sound systems, equipment maintenance, and preventive safety operations.

Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Serves as the primary contact in the absence of the Production Coordinator and answers technical questions about running an event and scheduling events. Evaluates technical riders and set-up requests. 

  • Serves as the primary shop and crew manager and supervises all phases of set and scenery construction, including basic painting skills, surface prep, base coating, and some faux finishing.  Supervises all phases of lighting, including load-in and basic lighting console programing and provides basic electrical knowledge. Supervises basic audio video practices, including mixing consoles, video projectors, microphones, and cabling practices and uses the computer to accomplish tasks as related to audio and video programs. Supervises technical rehearsals, run of production, and clearing of stage. Creates and reads construction drawings using computer software. 

  • Maintains shop tools, inventory, and housekeeping. Maintains auditorium equipment including sound, lights, audiovisual and computers. 

  •  Serves as the designer for sound, lights, and props as needed. 

  • Works with outside events managers, crews and other college personnel and college functions in a professional manner; Drives TSC vehicles, such as the operation of a 1 ton dump truck with manual transmission to transport productions equipment as needed; Performs other duties as needed. 

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a candidate who brings not only technical expertise but also a passion for education and student success. Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Two (2) years of experience in technical theater productions and/or scene shop supervision. Professional or non-professional related work experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.  College coursework beyond the associates’ degree in a related field may substitute at a rate of thirty (30) semester hours or forty-five (45) quarter hours on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

  • Required job duties are normally inside and require essential physical abilities such as lifting, carrying, pushing more than 50 pounds; walking standing; bending; stooping; good vision and hearing; reaching above shoulders; working with chemicals; etc.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform an essential function.

  • Leadership, Communication, and Organization skills

Bonus points if you have:

  • Lighting Design Experience

  • Sound Design Experience

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre or a related field

Skills Required
