Akron General offers a wide range of surgical services. Whether patients require minimally invasive procedures or major surgeries, Akron General’s surgical teams provide patients with excellent care. As Assistant Nurse Manager, you will support the nurse manager by providing clinical supervision and unit coordination. This position offers a great way to gain extensive leadership experience while continuing to provide the best support and treatment possible.
A caregiver in this position works Monday – Friday from 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. OR 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Both shifts require on-call every 6th weekend rotation, and 2 holidays per year requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Interview, hire and train staff; provide input into performance evaluations and provides feedback.
- Make personnel action recommendations (e.g., promotions, transfers, disciplinary, discharge).
- Provide direction and support to the unit staff and supervises admissions, conducts assessment of patient's needs, and initiates nursing care plans.
- Evaluate and document patient progress.
- Facilitate the planning, implementation, development, and evaluation of nursing programs, initiative, and objective for the unit.
- Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services in a unit. Serves as a liaison between the manager, staff, and other areas within the organization.
- Identify and resolve issues affecting the delivery of patient care services in a unit.
- Prepare schedule of work assignments assuring adequate coverage.
- Participate in and supports quality improvement projects, outcomes studies and research initiatives.
- Participate in departments and committees as assigned.
- Assist with providing continuing education and in-service educational programs for caregivers.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Bachelor's degree in nursing
- Graduated from an accredited school of professional nursing
- RN license in Ohio
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
- Two years of recent clinical nurse experience in the Operating Room (OR)
- Strong demonstrated clinical knowledge and skills; good oral, written, and interpersonal skills, strong analytical and organization skills
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Leadership/supervisory experience
Physical Requirements:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
