Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group is seeking a detail-oriented individual with a good eye for grammar and a passion for all types of children’s books to be an Assistant Managing Editor. The Assistant Managing Editor provides administrative support to our team of managing editors and production editors, as well as assistance with timely trafficking of a variety of materials and maintenance of clear and accurate title metadata. Responsible for handling approximately 30–50 reprints per week, maintaining department status grids, providing cross-divisional departments with book assets as needed, coordinating the cataloging-in-publication data application process, supporting managing editors in the markup and routing of digital book materials, and running reports and preparing for weekly production meetings and facilitating meetings as necessary.

What You'll Do:

  • Assist managing editors with the preparation of materials for key seasonal meetings.
  • Input data for new acquisitions and maintain title information in title management system.
  • Coordinate and distribute information relating to sales materials, as well as book assets such as typeset passes and art.
  • Attend weekly supply chain meeting and traffic reprint updates for all imprints, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery to production.
  • Coordinate cataloging-in-publication data applications to the Library of Congress with editorial assistants, and submit preassigned control number applications for all remaining titles for each season.
  • Act as production editor on select titles as needed.

  • Experience proofreading graphic novels preferred.
  • Working knowledge of illustrated book process.
  • Excellent computer skills and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic proofreading experience preferred.
  • Digital markup experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree

The salary range for this role is $55,000-$60,000.

This position is classified as remote but is tied to our New York, NY office located at 120 Broadway. Employment is subject to New York State tax withholding under applicable regulations.
