About the Assistant Location Safety Manager Position

The Assistant Location Safety Manager supports the Location Safety Manager with driver safety, employee training, regulatory compliance, accident investigation, and safety-performance improvement.

This position conducts training and employee evaluations involving Massachusetts School Bus Certificate holders. Candidates must already possess the Massachusetts credentials required to perform these responsibilities.

Required Massachusetts Credentials

Applicants must currently possess:

  • Valid Massachusetts Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger and School Bus endorsements
  • Current Massachusetts School Bus Driving Instructor’s Certificate

These credentials must be current and in good standing at the time of application. Candidates who only have the ability to obtain these credentials in the future do not meet the position’s current requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the driver hiring, qualification, and compliance processes
  • Conduct post-collision training, in-service safety meetings, driver evaluations, and other required training
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and guidance to location trainers
  • Investigate vehicle accidents, incidents, and workplace injuries
  • Determine accident preventability and complete all required documentation
  • Prepare and submit regulatory and compliance reports
  • Maintain accurate safety records and enter information into company systems
  • Conduct driver observations, road checks, and performance evaluations
  • Coach drivers and attendants on passenger management and safe driving practices
  • Assist with supervising employees responsible for safety, hiring, and driver training
  • Analyze safety trends and support the development of corrective actions
  • Partner with location leadership to maintain a positive and proactive safety culture
  • Collaborate with drivers, maintenance, dispatch, and office staff to improve safety and operational performance
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, company, and customer safety requirements
Qualifications
  • Current Massachusetts CDL with Passenger and School Bus endorsements
  • Current Massachusetts School Bus Driving Instructor’s Certificate
  • Two to three years of transportation, safety, compliance, training, or related operational leadership experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Working knowledge of Massachusetts school bus requirements and federal transportation safety regulations
  • Experience conducting driver training, evaluations, safety meetings, and post-collision retraining
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Excellent communication, organization, coaching, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Reliable personal vehicle for travel within the service area
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to coach and develop employees
