POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for implementation of improvements to online course designs and for the development of online courses. This is an on ground/campus position.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with Subject Matter Experts (SME) to create engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention;
- Work with SME and identify leaners' needs;
- Work with SME and/or instructors to develop courses, course components, design learning modules, and/or make revisions to current content design/organization;
- Support curricular SME and/or instructors with instructional design and instructional technology inquiries; State instructional end goals and create content that matches them;
- Visualize instructional graphics, the user interface, and the finished product; Conduct instructional research and analysis on learners and contexts; Apply tested instructional design theories, practice and methods;
- Provide exercises and activities that enhance the learning process;
- Create supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, role-plays, games, etc.);
- Maintain project documentation and course folders to implement improvements to online course designs and to the development of online courses;
- Responsible for designing and creating professional development opportunities for instructors and facilitating online course design and workshops;
- Responsible for consulting with departments and individuals by sharing expertise in online learning practices to procure effective delivery of instruction;
- Provide Canvas support to the Office of Information Technology as needed;
- Develop and facilitate online course designs and professional development workshops; Ensure course content is imported properly;
- Support STU Online with instructional design and technology requests/inquiries;
- Maintain current knowledge of best practices in online education and instructional technology; Comply with all departmental and University safety rules and regulations;
- Perform other duties assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Assignments are performed independently following University and departmental policies and procedures.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
No supervisory responsibility.
QualificationsPOSITION QUALIFICATIONS/SPECIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design and Technology, Education, or related field required. Master's degree in Instructional Design and Technology preferred.
- 1+years of instructional design experience inclusive of internship;
- Experience with Learning Management System (LMS) in Canvas and/or similar platform in an academic setting; Experience with building online course using LMS (e.g. Canvas, Blackboard, etc.) and online learning; Experience in a higher education environment, preferably in an instructional design role;
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and successfully complete tasks according to established deadlines;
- Exceptional technology and computer skills, especially in the use of LMS, MS Office Suite, Web Conference, Turnitin, etc.;
- Detail-oriented and excellent organizational skills;
- Strong interpersonal skills and presentation skills (both online and face-to-face)
- Effective collaboration and partnering skills;
- Professional appearance and demeanor with attention to detail and strong organizational skills needed to accomplish several ongoing assignments simultaneously.
- Position may require moderate travel and occasional irregular work hours.
- Physical requirements are within the normal bounds of an office environment but may include occasional lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds.
