POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Grant Manager position will work closely with the Managers of Finance & Grants in the Section of General Internal Medicine. This role will take the lead in developing clear and thorough policies and procedures for a variety of research workflows and become the point of contact for research staff needing to learn processes. The Assistant Grant Manager will partner with the Associate Chief of Research and research staff leaders to plan meetings, educational sessions and community building opportunities. This individual will learn how to manage sponsored projects and be given their own grant portfolio to oversee.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
Responsibilities
- Create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to research activities to aid in the training and work of Section’s research staff.
- Be point of contact for Section’s research staff who have procedure questions.
- Work with Associate Chief of Research to build research community in Section of GIM, plan meetings and educational events.
- Learn to manage sponsored projects with the goal of having personal grant portfolio to oversee.
- Create and maintain shadow budgets for projects within personal portfolio.
- Meet with principal investigators (PIs) to review budgets and spending projections on a monthly or quarterly basis.
- Submit required documents (progress reports, financial reports) to sponsors in timely manner.
- Partner with BMC’s Research Operations teams to manage portfolio.
- Keep faculty and staff salary allocations updated.
- Attend meetings including, but not limited to, GIM grant manager team meetings, Quarterly GIM Research meetings, DOM research meetings.
- Research and identify new potential funding sources (government, foundation and industry).
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or needed.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION & Experience:
- College degree required.
- Minimum of 1 year of finance, preferably research finance experience, required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Prior experience in sponsored research preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSA):
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong Excel skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive information.
- Ability to work towards deadlines.
