- Serve as the secondary administrator of Helen L. Greathouse Children’s Center
- Coordinate the children’s program according to the Texas HHS childcare licensing regulations and Texas Rising Star criteria for 4 Star Designated providers
- Communicate professionally and effectively with all staff, parents, children and Midland College Administration.
- Monitor developmentally appropriate curriculum and all learning activities designed for infants/toddlers and two-year-old children, including children’s schedules, lesson plans and routines. Provide time for teacher lesson planning time.
- Assist in implementing quality health and safety/emergency management standards for the entire center
- First responder for the substitution assistance in the event of teacher and staff absence at both children’s center
- Supervise and support assessment of the children
- Provide training, modeling, and support for teachers in all areas of effective instruction as directed
- Responsible for using positive guidance and discipline
- Implement positive classroom management techniques.
- Support teachers in keeping parents informed of the daily activities and routines of the center
- Assist in coordinating staff schedules, time off, and securing substitutes
- Responsible for updating and maintaining all center and staff records, etc.
- Assist in training staff for required annual training hours and orientation
- Assist in overseeing contract food services and custodial services
- Maintain a positive working relationship with Child Care Licensing and other community organizations
- Assist students who come in to the children’s center for educational and observation purposes, such as child development, nursing, psychology, and with various high school students
- Supervise part time staff such as teachers and campus work studies
- Assist as needed with daily snack and lunch set up
- Other duties assigned
Required Qualifications
- Associate Degree required with 12 hours in child development and 6 hours in management highly preferred
- Applicants with an Associate Degree but do not have required child development and management hours will also be considered
- • If hired, employee will be required to satisfactorily complete the required child development and management hours within one year of hire date
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver License, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy
- Three years or more working in a Texas Health and Human Services, Child Care License, child care facility or early childhood program
- Proficient in computer and software applications
- English language proficiency, organizational skills, knowledge of THHS child care licensing regulations of child care centers, and good communication skills with parents and staff
- Supervisory skills of employees
- Annual training of 36 clock hours is required after employment
- CPR and First Aid Training, FBI fingerprint scan, and pass criminal history background check
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
Physical Demands
- Job requires lifting up to 40 pounds, standing, rising up from low chairs or when sitting on the floor, walking, reaching, stooping, squatting down, bending, participating with children on the playground or outside play, potty training, and diaper changing
- Secure work environment, confidentiality of families, children and staff
- Travel for training, meetings, and events both in and out of town
Skills Required
