Job Description:

Job Description for Assistant Director of Financial Aid

  • Provide direct supervision and training to the Financial Aid Counselors and Financial Aid student workers.
  • Import and Export all Department of Education files to CPS and COD via PowerFaids and Edconnect, to include FAFSA’s, FAFSA corrections, and origination/disbursement files for Pell Grant, Teach Grant, and Direct Student Loans.
  • Request and review reports from NSLDS and COD as needed via each website.
  • Frequently review student’s Direct Loan and Pell Grant lifetime amounts via NSLDS and COD to ensure students do not exceed their lifetime limits.
  • Disburses all financial aid funds.
  • Reconciles all aid, ensuring that funds are requested and received within required timelines.
  • Responsible for working with the Louisiana Vocational Rehabilitation Program and the Workforce Investment Act Program, completing paperwork that helps determine student eligibility for those programs, and posting those awards once eligibility amounts have been determined.
  • Processes and awards employee tuition exemptions.
  • Monitors students that add, withdraw, or resign from classes, and making adjustments to their aid as needed.
  • Performs the Return to Title IV process for students that resign from all classes, determining the amount of aid that may be required to be returned to the Department of Education, returning the aid, and notifying the student and the Accounting Office of required actions.
  • Maintains the financial aid website, NetPartner, and social media sites, updating information when needed.
  • Annually update and create selection sets, letters, and documents upon creation of a new award year in Powerfaids, and as needed, to reflect the new year and/or any federal, state, or institutional policy changes.
  • Remain familiar with federal, state or institutional policies to ensure compliance is maintained.
  • Sends weekly notices to students who are missing documents needed to finalize their financial aid.
  • Primary contact for resolution of issues involving Pell Grant, student loans, and TEACH Grant.
  • Primary administrator of the Pell Grant, TEACH Grant, Direct and private student loans. 
  • Assists students and parents as needed in all matters related to financial aid.
  • Award financial aid and make adjustments as needed.
  • Regularly participate in financial aid workshops and outreach events.
  • Frequently collaborates with several administrative and academic departments to resolve student issues.
  • Serve on the Request to Waive Fees committee alongside the Registrar and Bursar Assistant Directors.
  • Assist in the planning, implementation, and updates of student information systems.
  • Assist the Director and other staff as needed.
