Job Description:

The Assistant Director supports the Center for Integrated Advising with fellowship recruitment and marketing efforts and with the planning and execution of student research and conference programming. The position plays a key role in expanding student awareness and participation in fellowship and research opportunities, developing programs and resources that support students in pursuing competitive opportunities, and building relationships with faculty, staff, and campus partners to strengthen student engagement in research and scholarly activities. Reporting to the Director of the center, the Assistant Director also contributes to the administration, assessment, and continuous improvement of fellowship and student research programs and provides individualized guidance to students throughout the application and preparation process.

Essential Functions:

  • Acts as primary advisor for a portfolio of national and international fellowships and scholarships as assigned. Supports the Center for Integrated Advising in advising for other fellowships as requested.

  • Establishes mentoring relationships with students and works effectively one-on-one with students of all backgrounds and identities.

  • Partners with faculty, the Office of Career and Professional Development, and the Harte Center for Teaching and Learning to encourage and support students in the fellowship, research, and post-graduation planning and preparation process.

  • Supports The Center for Integrated Advising in the planning and execution of signature research and conference programming as assigned.

  • Develops relevant workshops, encourages participation in webinars and information sessions, and provides ongoing support through fellowship application resources. Collects participation and outcome data to inform the center's future programming and scheduling endeavors.

  • Maintains contact with fellowship alumni, and maintains databases with past, present, and future fellowship applicants.

  • Is an active member of the National Association of Fellowship Advisors (NAFA). Represents the University at regional and national conferences.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience required.

  • At least three years of significant professional experience in an academic setting or a combination of experience and education from which a similar skill set would be derived.

  • Must have excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously, meet multiple deadlines, set priorities and work both independently and as part of a creative team.

  • Excellent communication skills are required; must have highly developed interpersonal and advising skills.

  • Detailed understanding of higher education policy and procedures and ability to network extensively with university stakeholders such as students, alumni, organizations, faculty and staff.

  • Exceptional editorial and writing skills.

  • Familiarity with a range of database, spreadsheet, word processing, and web design software packages.

  • Advanced degree/doctorate in a disciplinary field preferred.

  • This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) in accordance with the Clery Act. This position is required to report Clery qualifying crimes to the Department of Public Safety and complete annual training about your reporting responsibilities under the law.

Compensation:

The expected annual salary for this posting is between $68,000 - $79,000. Offers are based on factors such as qualifications, relevant experience, skills, internal equity, and market and organizational considerations.
