ROLE SUMMARY: The Assistant Director of Facilities supports the Director of Facilities in overseeing the daily operation, maintenance, safety, and long-term care of Hotel Drover’s physical plant. This role ensures building systems, grounds, and facilities operate efficiently, safely, and in alignment with brand standards while supporting preventative maintenance programs, capital planning, and team development to deliver an exceptional guest and employee experience. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Assist in planning, organizing, and overseeing the daily operations of the Facilities/Engineering Department. 

  • Supervise day-to-day engineering activities, including work order distribution, prioritization, tracking, and follow-up.  

  • Support the maintenance and operation of all building systems, including HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, water treatment, and life safety systems. 

  • Assist in administering and continuously improving the preventative maintenance program to minimize downtime and protect assets.  

  • Support departmental budgeting efforts, including operating expenses, capital expenditures, inventory control, and energy conservation initiatives. 

  • Assist in establishing priorities for total property maintenance needs and special projects. 

  • Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public spaces, back-of-house areas, and grounds to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with standards. 

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, building codes, safety standards, permits, and licenses. 

  • Serve as technical liaison for hotel departments, contractors, and vendors regarding facilities-related needs. 

  • Maintain effective working relationships with external contractors and vendors, including emergency service providers. 

  • Assist in evaluating and implementing new technologies, equipment, tools, and maintenance practices. 

  • Support inventory management of parts, tools, materials, and equipment to maximize efficiency and cost control. 

  • Ensure all Engineering team members are properly trained on equipment operation, safety procedures, and fire/life safety systems. 

  • Steward the guest and employee experience by modeling professionalism, responsiveness, and Legendary Service. 

  • All other duties as assigned. 

 

     ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods. 

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs as required.  

  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to heat, cold, humidity, noise, mechanical rooms, rooftops, and confined spaces. 

  • Ability to respond to emergency or after-hours maintenance situations as needed. 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provides daily direction and operational oversight to Engineering team members during assigned shifts. 

  • Assists with training, task assignment, performance feedback, and accountability. 

 

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in engineering, facilities, maintenance, or related professional area, including technical training in HVAC-R, electrical, and/or plumbing  

  • Working knowledge of building systems, preventative maintenance programs, and life safety operations. 

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. 

  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving abilities. 

  • Flexible schedule — must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. 

  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and workplace safety practices.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Prior hotel, resort, or luxury hospitality facilities leadership experience. 

  • Supervisory or management experience within an Engineering or Facilities department. 

  • Construction, renovation, or capital project experience. 

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, operationally complex environment.
