The Assistant Director of Safety & Security is responsible for supporting the Director in the leadership, management, and continuous improvement of all Safety, Security, Emergency Response, Medical, Water Rescue, Technology, and Risk Management operations within CostaTerra Golf & Ocean Club. 

The position serves as the second-in-command of the Community of Safety & Security Department and provides direct oversight of operational teams, supervisors, contractors, emergency preparedness programs, security technologies, and compliance initiatives. 

The Assistant Director shall maintain a proactive "Detect, Deter, Observe and Report" philosophy while ensuring that members, guests, employees, and contractors experience a safe, secure, and welcoming environment. The role assumes responsibility for departmental leadership in the Director's absence. The position is aligned with the functions currently assigned to the Director and existing departmental structure. 

What you will do?

Operational Leadership 

  • Act as the Deputy Head of the Community of Safety & Security Department. 

  • Assume full operational command of the department in the absence of the Director. 

  • Provide leadership, supervision and guidance to Security Managers, Supervisors, SOC personnel, Safety professionals, Emergency Response personnel and contractors. 

  • Monitor daily operations and ensure service standards are consistently achieved. 

  • Ensure adequate staffing levels and operational readiness across all shifts. 

 

Security Operations 

  • Assist in managing all physical security operations throughout CostaTerra. 

  • Oversee access control, patrol operations, gate operations, investigations and incident response activities. 

  • Ensure effective deployment of personnel and resources to mitigate security risks. 

  • Coordinate with contracted security providers and monitor performance against established service expectations. 

  • Support liaison activities with local law enforcement agencies, emergency services and governmental authorities. 

 

Safety & Occupational Health 

  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of Occupational Health & Safety programs. 

  • Assist with risk assessments, inspections, audits and incident investigations. 

  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety legislation and company standards. 

  • Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the organisation. 

  • Coordinate with external safety consultants and service providers. 

 

Emergency Management & Crisis Response 

  • Support the development, implementation and maintenance of Emergency Response Plans. 

  • Coordinate emergency exercises, tabletop drills and evacuation exercises. 

  • Oversee preparedness of First Intervention Brigades and emergency response personnel. 

  • Participate in incident command during major emergencies and business continuity events. 

  • Ensure corrective actions arising from drills and incidents are implemented. 

 

Medical & First Response Services 

  • Assist with oversight of contracted medical and first response services. 

  • Ensure emergency medical procedures remain effective and aligned with operational requirements. 

  • Monitor service provider performance and operational readiness. 

  • Support emergency medical planning for special events and high-risk activities. 

 

Water Rescue & Aquatic Safety 

  • Support management of lifeguard and water rescue operations. 

  • Ensure operational readiness of rescue teams and equipment. 

  • Assist in the implementation of preventive aquatic safety programmes. 

  • Participate in operational planning for beaches, lakes and other aquatic environments. 

 

Security Technology & Systems 

  • Assist with the management and development of security technologies including: 

  • CCTV systems 

  • Access Control Systems 

  • Security Operations Centre (SOC) 

  • Intrusion Detection Systems 

  • Emergency Communication Systems 

  • Analytics and Monitoring Platforms 

  • Drone Operations (where applicable) 

  • Support technology projects and continuous improvement initiatives. 

 

Investigations & Compliance 

  • Lead or support internal investigations involving: 

  • Security incidents 

  • Safety incidents 

  • Employee misconduct 

  • Theft and fraud 

  • Contractor non-compliance 

  • Emergency response failures 

  • Ensure investigations are conducted professionally, objectively and confidentially. 

  • Prepare executive reports and recommendations for senior management. 

 

Leadership & Staff Development 

  • Recruit, train, coach and mentor department personnel. 

  • Conduct performance reviews and career development discussions. 

  • Support succession planning initiatives. 

  • Promote accountability, professionalism and operational excellence. 

  • Ensure all personnel maintain required certifications and training standards. 

 

Administration & Reporting 

  • Prepare operational reports, audits, presentations and executive briefings. 

  • Monitor departmental objectives, KPIs and compliance requirements. 

  • Assist with budgeting, procurement and resource planning. 

  • Ensure accurate maintenance of departmental records and documentation.

What are we looking for?

Education 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Security Management, Safety Management, Emergency Management, Business Administration, Criminal Justice or related field preferred. 

  • Equivalent professional experience may be considered. 

Experience 

  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in: 

  • Security Operations 

  • Safety Management 

  • Emergency Management 

  • Law Enforcement 

  • Military Leadership 

  • Corporate Security 

  • Minimum 3 years in a supervisory or management position. 

Preferred Certifications 

  • Superior Technician in Health and Safety 

  • First Aid / Emergency Response Certifications 

  • Incident Command System (ICS) Training 

  • Private Security Management Certifications 

  • Fire Safety Training 

  • Emergency Management Certifications
