Job Description:

The Assistant Director of Alumni Relations supports increasing alumni engagement by cultivating meaningful relationships with alumni and students through volunteer management, special events, career networking initiatives, targeted constituent outreach, engagement tracking, and personalized follow-up. Works collaboratively with the Executive Director, Director, and Associate Director of Alumni Relations, all members of the Development Division, and various internal and external partners. This position helps identify and recruit alumni to engage with Rhodes and move them from initial participation to deeper involvement primarily through alumni events, volunteering, career networking, admission recruitment, and philanthropy.
The Assistant Director provides day-to-day support for alumni volunteers and the Rhodes Alumni Student Ambassador program, assists alumni and students through the Rhodes Career Network, supports alumni engagement initiatives, maintains constituent engagement records, and implements individualized stewardship strategies that strengthen alumni participation.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Identify, recruit, and cultivate meaningful relationships with alumni through personalized outreach, alumni visits, and relationship-building activities that foster lifelong affinity with Rhodes. Increase alumni engagement by connecting constituents with opportunities to participate in events, volunteer service, career networking, admission recruitment, and philanthropy. Develop and maintain favorable relationships with constituents, solicit Annual Fund gifts when appropriate, and professionally represent Rhodes at alumni, student, and campus events.

  • Partner with Development Operations on maintaining updated alumni records and capturing alumni engagement. Work closely with front-line fundraisers staffing events to secure check-in lists and confirm attendee coding. Gather alumni volunteer participation lists from programs such as Lynx Link, admission calling, career networking panels, and other initiatives to ensure volunteer engagement is accurately recorded and tracked. Review Honor Roll of Donors volunteer recognition lists annually.

  • Assist in the recruiting, selection, and oversight of the Rhodes Alumni Student Ambassadors, the student leadership organization that serves as a liaison between alumni and current students. Manage Ambassador volunteers for alumni events, specifically Homecoming/Reunion Weekend, CajunFest, and the annual Easter Egg Hunt. Develop and implement a strategy to sustain engagement with Alumni Student Ambassadors following graduation, encouraging continued involvement with the College.

  • Provide logistical support, including agendas, materials, minutes, and follow-up action items for volunteer boards, committees, and councils. This includes maintaining timely deadlines for communications with all groups.

  • Serve as the initial point of contact for alumni and students seeking alumni career connections through the Rhodes Career Network. Meet individually with alumni and students to explain networking best practices, researching alumni and employers, conducting informational interviews, and utilizing career networking resources. Track networking activity and coordinate follow-up throughout the engagement process.

  • Monitor career postings on the online alumni community. Initiate contact with alumni who submit career postings and share them with the Career Center. Maintain membership in Facebook, LinkedIn, and other professional networking platforms.

  • Serve as a frontline representative of Alumni Relations by responding to inquiries and fostering positive relationships with constituents. Manage the Alumni Relations main phone line and [email protected] email account, providing timely, professional responses and directing inquiries as appropriate.

  • Maintain alumni relations inventory including gifts and recognition items for volunteers and legacies, branded event items, and other items as needed.

  • Help design, implement, and deliver new and existing alumni events and programs. This includes pulling lists from Raiser's Edge for event invitations, designing invitations, securing approvals, sending invitations and reminders through MailChimp and ThruText, and monitoring registrations through Formsite.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
