Join The CrewWe are hiring an Assistant Director of Accounting to join our team. Reporting to the Senior Director of Accounting, this position takes Away further by owning our core close and audit processes, driving operational improvements, and partnering cross-functionally as a strategic thought partner to enhance the accuracy, timeliness, and quality of financial reporting.
In addition to the below responsibilities, this position will also oversee a team of 2 Senior Accountants.
What you’ll do as the Assistant Director of AccountingYou’ll own the monthly close process, partnering closely with FP&A, Revenue Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and AP teams to ensure an accurate, efficient, and timely close across all entities
You’ll establish and evolve the account reconciliation framework, including identifying opportunities to leverage AI-enabled tools to enhance quality and efficiency
You’ll partner with FP&A to ensure the integrity of financial statements, investigate material variances to forecast, and improve the accuracy of customer, channel, and departmental reporting
You’ll lead the annual audit process, managing auditor relationships and ensuring timely, complete delivery of all required materials
You’ll partner with IT to identify and implement system and reporting enhancements within the Microsoft D365 ERP environment, driving scalable process improvements and progressing toward a sustainable 5-day close
You’ll drive the accounting function’s digital transformation roadmap, advancing the use of automation and AI to reduce manual processes and improve control and visibility
You’ll own the monthly consolidation process, including intercompany reconciliations, and enhance consolidation capabilities within the ERP; oversee fixed asset and lease accounting
You’ll enhance our technical accounting practices, including ASC 606 and ASC 842 application across the business
You have a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in Corporate Accounting and/or public accounting roles, with a minimum of 5 years leading high-performing teams; experience working in retail/CPG is preferred, but not required
You’re a subject matter expert in US GAAP, including an understanding of ASC 606 and ASC 842 requirements (CPA strongly preferred but not required)
You possess a strong working knowledge of ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics/D365 preferred, but not required), advanced Excel skills, and an interest in applying AI Agents to optimize manual tasks
You are a confident strategic advisor across matrixed organizations, with past experience providing high-level financial narratives and proactive insights to align performance of monthly tasks and influence company-wide decision-making
You have experience in multi-national organizations and consolidation of multi-currency financial results
You’re creative and innovative; you love to build great new things that are fresh and unique while staying on brand
You’re agile, and motivated by a fast-paced and ever changing environment

Our total rewards are inclusive of both compensation and benefits. What we offer within a salary range is dependent on a number of factors, including scope and qualifications for the role, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to other Away employees. Salary and benefit offerings are reviewed during phone screenings to ensure alignment.
Compensation: $150,000-$155,000
This role is eligible to participate in Away’s Annual Company Performance Incentive Bonus Plan, the terms of which are determined at the discretion of the company
Equity Grant: commensurate with level determined at the discretion of the company

This is an office-based position that works from our Soho, NYC office four days a week. Our working hours are 9am-6pm et, but we embrace a common-sense approach to flexibility in the workplace. It’s about being present, engaged, and balancing work with real-life needs.
