The Assistant Dean, Programs will be responsible for assisting the Dean of Undergraduate Affairs in day-to-day and strategic activities while providing dedicated operational, administrative, research, and project-based support for the assigned division(s) and leads, trains and mentors faculty and staff to ensure compliance with applicable internal/external regulations. 

The primary focus for the Assistant Dean, Programs in this role is the enhancement of the quality of the undergraduate experience and the strengthening of the integration of the university-wide undergraduate curricular and co-curricular initiatives. The Assistant Dean will interact with the University’s senior leadership, students and administration at all levels within the organization. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Specifically, the Assistant Dean will:

  • Monitor and support the operations of each of the following units within the Division of Undergraduate Affairs in conjunction with the respective directors, including but not limited to:

  • Office of Academic Enhancement

  • Office of Civic and Community Engagement

  • Study Abroad

  • Health Professions Advising

  • Undergraduate Research & Creative Endeavors

  • The Foote Fellows Program

  • Stamps Scholars Program

  • Army ROTC

  • Oversee the cognate submission, review and publication process.

  • Staff the Sr. Vice Provost and organize agendas for all committee and council meetings including but not limited to: Academic Deans Advisory Council

  • (ADAC), Academic Standards Committee, University Curriculum Committee, and Student Affairs Committees of the Faculty Senate

  • Manage and provide content for the Division of Undergraduate Affairs website. Coordinate the publication of unit websites from the Division’s main website.

  • Assist with performance related matters for relevant division directors, including but not limited to annual performance evaluations, salary recommendations, recruitment and retention etc.

  • Develop a multi-annual strategic and financial plan for the administration of Undergraduate Affairs.

  • Manage the operating budget, research budget and assigned gifts on behalf of the Dean.

  • Assist with budget development and maintenance for units within the Division of Undergraduate Affairs; work closely with the Division’s Senior

  • Business Officer to monitor financial activity and budget development by units. Work closely with unit leaders to adhere to budget restrictions,

  • policies and procedures.

  • Oversee the recruitment process for all personnel as deemed necessary.

  • Partner with Enrollment Management on Army ROTC matters, including coordinating among Admissions, Army ROTC leadership, scholarship

  • recipients, and UM gift administration.

  • Monitor Amry ROTC program and support assigned cadre with UM processes.

  • Coordinate and manage administrative details for new and continuing Division contracts and agreements as needed.

  • Serve on campus-wide team (Coordinate Communication) as dedicated liaison to the schools and colleges to ensure alignment and effective communication to support the onboarding of new students.

  • Supervise Division-wide shared services staff as needed.

  • Represent the Dean in his/her absence in meetings and conferences locally, nationally and internationally as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Master's degree in relevant field required

Experience:

Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience required

A relevant combination of experience and education may be considered

  • Technology & Analytics: Understanding of technology, data analytics, and performance measurement to drive strategic decisions and identify opportunities.
  • Communication: Ability to influence others, articulate strategic vision, and ensure clear and persuasive communication.
