Job Description

The Assistant Controller provides key support to the Controller and Finance Leadership Team across all areas of financial management. This individual combines strong technical accounting skills with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset to address complex challenges. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who demonstrates sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. This position reports directly to the Controller.

Responsibilities

  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
  • Oversee reconciliations of key general ledger accounts, including intercompany balances, project-related assets and liabilities, and work-in-progress (WIP).
  • Lead the monthly revenue recognition cycle, partnering with Regional Cost Control Managers to ensure that project financials are accurate under the percentage-of-completion method.
  • Assist with month-end WIP reviews and reporting of project financial performance to executive leadership and operations teams.
  • Maintain and improve internal controls over accounting and project financial reporting.
  • Manage audit and tax engagements, including coordination with external auditors and external tax professionals.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Help enforce accounting policies and drive consistency across regions or business units.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve system efficiency.
  • Support system implementations, upgrades, and testing for accounting modules.
  • Supervise and mentor staff accountants and payroll specialists, reviewing their work and supporting professional development.
  • Serve as a key backup to the Controller in managing accounting operations and leading the accounting team.
  • Assist in preparing presentations and analysis for leadership, including variance explanations, performance trends, and other ad-hoc reporting as needed.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including management responsibilities (public accounting or private industry)
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required; Master's degree in accounting preferred
  • CPA required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with one or more accounting systems required; Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial analysis techniques
  • Exposure to international accounting and multi-entity consolidation a plus
  • Proven ability to lead and develop accounting teams
  • Experience managing payroll teams a plus
  • Proven ability to manage according to deadlines
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Engineering or construction industry experience preferred
  • Ability to travel (less than 10%)
