Job Summary
Under minimal supervision oversees, organizes, directs, controls, and delegates work to professional staff regarding the accounting function for the Authority and oversees the Accounting department. Supervises the daily processes for invoices, general ledger accounting, and posting of cash receipts. Reviews and approves the reconciliation of sub-ledgers to the General Ledger. Follows up on past due amounts with relevant stakeholders. Reviews and approves journal entries and collaborates with the relevant departments regarding month end close. Ensures the general ledger accurately reflects revenue and expense in compliance with GAAP, GASB, FASB and all applicable accounting rules, laws and regulations. Ensures the financials are complete, accurate and timely. Reviews all reconciliations on a monthly basis. Updates and maintains financial policies. Runs the annual audit and ensures no material weakness in controls. Interacts collaboratively with the Controller, Associate CFO, Rev Cycle and other relevant departments to ensure financials are accurate and timely.
Essential Functions:
- Manages overall performance of Accounting (25%)
- Develops, implements and complies with sound accounting and internal control policies and procedures. Coordinates Authority policies and reviews and updates as required. Educates staff and other departments as needed about procedural and internal control issues. Updates existing policies and develops new policies as needed on the Authority's Policy Stat site. Maintains Authority signature authority, ensuring new job codes are addressed. Coordinates and conducts the annual financial audit, serving as primary contact. Prepares or supervise preparation of relevant footnotes and schedules. Goal of zero management letter comments/audit findings. Follow-up and resolve findings when they do occur. (20%)
- Develops, improves and issues the monthly financial reporting package in a timely manner for the CFO, ACFO, Executive Staff and Board of Directors. Prepares and communicates month end close schedules. Coordinates the monthly financial review meeting of financial statements. Communicates as needed to ensure proper distribution of the monthly financial packets. Involved in the day to day accounting for all aspects of Authority financial transactions. Coordinates with the Budget and Financial Business Partner departments on a regular basis to ensure adequate review of financial transactions and reporting. (10%)
- Ensures the proper accounting treatment of financial transactions, and researches accounting literature and principles as needed. Maintains knowledge of governmental accounting, reporting and compliance. Documents accounting treatment of unusual or infrequent transactions and provides guidance to the Accounting team. (10%)
- Completes timely personnel evaluations that contain meaningful goals for the employees that align with Denver Health's pillar initiatives. Provide constructive and routine feedback and recognition to employees. Complete corrective action/discipline/termination as needed. (10%)
- Reviews all balance sheet reconciliations for accuracy, correctness and completeness. (10%)
- Maintains the General Accounting Finance Sharepoint site to ensure it is kept current, and that necessary tools and information are available for Authority employees as regards to Finance functions. (5%)
- Prepares and analyzes metrics to monitor staff productivity. (5%)
- Completes projects or analysis as requested by the Controller, Associate CFO or CFO. (5%)
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree Required
Work Experience:
- 10+ years Ten years accounting experience Required and
- 4-6 years Five years supervisory experience Required and
Licenses:
- CPA-Certified Public Accountant - AICPA - Association of International Certified Professional Accountants
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge and competency in Accounting
- Demonstrated competency in financial statement and tax return preparation
- Strong problem solving and analytical ability.
- Excellent communication skills especially to non-finance personnel.
- Time Management skills.
- Ability to lead a team and work collaboratively with others.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Infor ERP knowledge preferred
