What's the Short Version?

The Assistant Controller, Financial Reporting has critical responsibility for monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close and reporting processes in addition to overseeing the financial reporting functions of all global subsidiaries worldwide. This role serves as a true strategic partner to the Controller, provides hands-on assistance to direct reports on financial policy, procedures, internal controls, and accounting principles, and works with other internal and external stakeholders to ensure the Company's accounting and financial reporting functions remain accurate, consistent, and timely.


What Will You Be Doing?

  • Participate and coordinate the process to compile, analyze, tie-out, and review monthly, quarterly, and yearly consolidated financial results/account reconciliations.
  • Identify any potential operational or accounting issues and provide timely analyses and interpretation as required to communicate issues to the Controller/CFO.
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP and all external reporting requirements.
  • Partner closely with all Finance and Accounting functions to implement and monitor proper accounting processes and controls.
  • Design and enhance controls in the financial reporting area that incorporate standardization and simplification principles.
  • Analyze and recommend improvements to major systems, policies and procedures, and internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Lead key accounting process improvement projects that involve multiple departments.
  • Coordinate detailed work papers to support disclosures and detailed analyses included in monthly financial statements and annual audited statements in accordance with GAAP guidelines.
  • Collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders to formulate financial policy and transformation.
  • Interface with external auditors/internal stakeholders during year-end external audits.
  • Partner with other departments within SanMar to address accounting issues, as needed.
  • Monitor periodic changes to FASB regulations for private companies, assesses the impact to SanMar, and makes necessary changes to policies, procedures, and controls. Research authoritative accounting pronouncements to prepare technical accounting whitepaper.
  • Contribute continuous improvement in the effectiveness and efficiency of the corporate monthly/quarterly close and reporting process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all policies and standards.


What Are We Looking For?

  • Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related Preferred.
  • 10+ years of broad and progressive experience in accounting role.
  • 4-6 years of experience in a managerial or leadership role is preferred.
  • 4-6 years of experience providing services to public companies in a growth-oriented, multi-national, manufacturing, and sales organization is preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) research tools, and FASB codification.
  • Expert level understanding of an internal control framework (specifically COSO) to assess control design and operational efficiency and ability to teach these concepts to team members.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented work style.
  • Advanced proficiency with spreadsheet data manipulation and creation.
  • Aptitude for leading teams; influencing and galvanizing others to work together toward a solution.
  • Self-starter and ability to work independently and balance multiple projects and processes simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication/interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills.


What's Our Offer?

Salary Range: You`ll earn between $135,000 - $190,000 annually, depending on experience.


Bonus: You`ll be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus up to 15% of base salary.


Paid Time Off: You`ll accrue paid time off on a bi-weekly basis based on hours worked up to 152 hours per year to start. Employees also receive 8 paid holidays and 1 paid family day off.

What Should You Expect?

Hybrid; While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Work environment is moderately quiet. Ability to work on computer for multiple hours with frequent interruptions. 
SanMar's Eastpointe office is located near Seattle, WA and our standard working hours are 8:00-5:00 PST. Quarterly travel may be required.
