Job Description

The Assistant Controller will direct, plan and control the Financial, Cost Accounting and Compliance activities for  AbbVie's manufacturing plant (AP16). Provides financial leadership, business expertise, guidance, and support to the AP16 Site Director and functional leaders and assist in decision-making process by providing reliable, timely and accurate financial information.  Responsible for driving the completion of the annual plan, update, long-range plans, and latest-best-estimates for the site. Delivers timely and accurate requirements, presentations, and financial results. Summarize key financial highlights and metrics for the Management team to bring insights and analysis into meeting financial and operational objectives. The position is expected to seek out cost opportunities and assist in managing the organization in achieving optimal financial performance. This position must ensure the site financial activities are conducted in compliance with CFMs, GAAP policies  and regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Planning and Reporting: Direct and manage all the financial activities associated with AbbVie's manufacturing plant (AP16). Key functions include standard cost development, manufacturing variance analysis, budget development, inventory reconciliations, forecasting and projections, internal controls, sales, and billing, etc.
  • Reporting/Control: Coordinate the timely and accurate preparation of AP16’s monthly reports, quarterly schedules, Balance Sheet reconciliations and year-end financial information packages. Ascertain and assure adherence to the corporate and division due dates.
  • Planning Cycles: Coordinate, prepare and submit Plan, Update, Long Range Plan (LRP) and Last Best Estimate (LBE) packages and their related supporting documentation.
  • Financial Analysis: Provide sound financial analysis and scenario planning for functional decision support. Responsible for monitoring and identifying opportunities or initiatives to optimize Gross Margins. Prepares and presents relevant recommendations to all levels of management to improve profitability and optimize the operational business model.
  • Internal Controls: Ensure adequate financial systems and controls are established and maintained in line with AbbVie Corporate Financial Manual (CFM) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Ensure compliance of internal and external audit requirements and consistent recording and reporting of fiscal transactions. Maintain the integrity and control of general ledger accounts through review and analysis.
  • Business Partnering: Take the initiative to identify a broad range of business issues and provide leadership in the decision-making process. Integrate the finance function with business activities to provide value to the customer. Actively participate in managing the business and in establishing its strategic direction. Advise Management on financial and non-financial activities that impact, complement, or improve Business performance. Identify and lead Cost Reductions initiatives.
  • Provide analyses for ad hoc or other business presentations that lend insight into key business drivers enabling operating management to adapt more appropriate tactics/strategy to meet the LBE / Plan / LRP objectives.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop a team of 3 direct reports.
  • Regional responsibility: Lead Packaging Region sites cost accounting and reporting continuous improvement, simplification and standardization of processes across network. Create an environment of Continuous Improvement and Innovation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting  CPA/MBA preferred
  • 7 plus years of relevant finance experience. Cost accounting experience preferred. 3 plus years supervisory experience.
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making abilities (broad implications). Excellent analytical skills and independent judgment.
  • Excellent leadership skills. Open and trustful communication skills with all levels of the organization.   Comfortable presenting to large audiences and all levels of management.
  • Strategic & critical thinking (instrument of change and challenge of conventional thinking) Excellent analytical/statistical skills (able to interpret & provide a broader context to converging information)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a constantly changing and challenging environment. Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changes.
  • Broad business perspective (able to provide advice and alternatives in financial & non financial matters)
