About GrowthX AI

Your website is now the truth layer for AI answers. Most marketing teams are meeting that shift with a stack that doesn't connect: SEO tools measure, content tools produce, agencies advise, and nobody closes the loop between what gets published and what actually works.

GrowthX closes it. We build one system that holds a company's context, finds the next opportunity, produces the content, and feeds the results back in. Software runs the workflows, our experts calibrate them, and every cycle makes the next one sharper.

Teams at Ramp, Lovable, Strapi and Together AI run on it. We're remote-first and globally distributed, and we're hiring people who want to shape how companies grow with AI.

We're hiring our first Assistant Controller to build and own the Accounting function at GrowthX. This is a 0-to-1 role: you're not inheriting a mature org, you're standing one up. You'll take the accounting infrastructure we have today — an outsourced bookkeeping firm, Campfire as our GL, and a lot of tribal knowledge walking out the door with our outgoing accounting lead — and turn it into a function that scales with the business and holds up under audit.

You'll report to the Head of Finance and own the integrity of our books end to end: close, reporting, AR/collections, AP oversight, revenue recognition, systems, and controls. We currently lean on an outsourced accounting firm for bookkeeping — that's a stopgap, not the target state. Part of the job is to bring that work in-house and lower our dependence on outside help as the function matures, which means you should expect to be hands-on with the actual work, not just reviewing someone else's. You'll build the process, controls, and documentation so the next hire doesn't have to reverse-engineer any of it from Slack threads.

GrowthX runs a hybrid model — subscription platform revenue alongside services revenue — so you'll work with revenue recognition that isn't a single, simple SaaS pattern. You'll also inherit real, live problems on day one: aging AR, contract structures with opt-out windows, multi-state tax exposure, and systems that don't yet talk to each other cleanly. We need someone who wants to fix that, not someone who needs it already fixed.

You might be a fit if you…

  • Have prior experience as a Controller, or as a strong Assistant Controller / Accounting Manager ready to run the function independently, ideally at a high-growth Series A SaaS company.

  • Have built or materially matured an accounting function before — you know what "0 to 1" actually requires: process, controls, and documentation that don't yet exist.

  • Are deep in U.S. GAAP, including ASC 606 revenue recognition for subscription and services revenue, and can reason through a nonstandard revenue scenario instead of just applying a template.

  • Are AI-forward: you use AI tools daily to move faster on close, reconciliations, and reporting, and you have a point of view on where automation belongs in an accounting workflow versus where it doesn't.

  • Are comfortable owning the close independently — you can run it yourself without a controller above you catching your mistakes.

  • Think like a business partner, not just an accountant: you can read a customer contract, a compensation change, or an operational decision and see the accounting and cash implications before anyone asks.

  • Communicate clearly and directly — you can explain a judgment call to a non-finance exec in plain language and defend it if pushed.

  • Are self-directed and comfortable with ambiguity. This is a remote, async, high-autonomy environment; nobody hands you a fully scoped process.

What you'll do

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close. We use an outsourced accounting firm for bookkeeping today; you'll direct that relationship in the near term while working to bring close, bookkeeping, and AP execution in-house over time.

  • Prepare and ensure GAAP-compliant financial statements; analyze balance sheet and P&L movements and investigate variances before they reach leadership.

  • Own AR and collections: invoicing, payment application, aging, and the direct customer follow-up that an outsourced team can't own — GrowthX carries meaningful past-due AR today, and closing that gap is part of the job, not an afterthought.

  • Own AP oversight and vendor management, including approval workflows and vendor account hygiene.

  • Work through complex accounting topics including ASC 606 revenue recognition, contract modifications, and billing structures, in a business with both subscription and services revenue.

  • Own our core finance systems — Campfire (GL/AR/AP), Carta (equity), and our billing/payment stack — including the integration roadmap between them.

  • Own the accounting processes, approval workflows, documentation, and internal controls a growing SaaS company needs, replacing ad hoc handling with something a new hire or an auditor could pick up cold.

  • Review customer and vendor contracts for their accounting, billing, and revenue recognition implications, and translate negotiated terms into correct treatment.

  • Own equity administration: option grant processing, cap table accuracy, and coordination with legal and the cap table system.

  • Support treasury: cash positioning, inter-account transfers, and forecasting cash needs alongside the Head of Finance.

  • Own tax and compliance coordination with external tax and legal advisors, including multi-state filings and notices.

  • Partner with People Ops on payroll accounting, compensation changes, and compliance, working alongside our PEO.

  • Prepare monthly reporting packages for our lender and investors.

  • Build the audit-readiness muscle: documentation and controls that hold up the first time an external auditor asks a question, not just when the numbers happen to be right.

Bonus points if…

  • You've used Campfire, or a comparable modern GL (Ramp, Rippling, NetSuite, etc.), and can get productive fast.

  • You've built an accounting function at a startup from the ground up, not just operated within one someone else built.

  • You've worked in a hybrid subscription + services revenue model.

  • You've insourced an accounting function that was previously outsourced, or transitioned a company off an outside bookkeeping firm.

  • You've been through a first audit or a first institutional financing round and know what that scrutiny actually demands.
