Job Summary

Apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports and forecasts by compiling information and utilizing appropriate accounting control procedures.

Responsible for working with Teledyne corporate to provide any financial information that is requested. Will supervise a small accounting staff and oversee all daily, monthly and quarterly reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities may include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Prepare and review financial statements, monthly closing reports, journal entries and cost accounting reports
  • Work with controller to maintain proper accounting and internal control procedures and polices
  • Preparation and review of monthly account reconciliations
  • Assist controller with both internal and external auditors in completing annual audits
  • Work with corporate to gather and prepare year end information for tax reporting
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Research various accounting topics to include GAAP and FAR compliance
  • Assist controller with developing staff
  • Participate in process improvement activities
  • Daily availability to include evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals and deadlines.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Direct staffing, training and performance evaluation of Accounting personnel to achieve established business goals. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Conducts management meetings with department heads to establish, delineate and review organizational financial policies, to coordinate accounting activities between departments and to establish responsibilities for attaining objectives.
  • Ensure accounting personnel practices are in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience (Accounting Management / Assistant Controller) and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. 
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. 
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. 
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. 
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Be capable of both analytical and imaginative reasoning which are desirable attributes that will better enable you to carry out the duties of Accounting manager. 

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of

  • MS Excel Spreadsheet software, candidate should be proficient
  • MS Office Products

Other Essential Duties

  • Follows all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Basic Knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen
  • Knowledge of specific software Deltek Costpoint would be a plus, but extensive knowledge of ERP system is required.  (design, analysis, ERP…)

Other Qualifications

  • US Citizenship with ability to attain/maintain government security clearance.
  • Ability to travel (domestically/internationally) approximately _+/-10__%
