The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in overseeing the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and month-end and year-end close processes. This role helps ensure accurate financial information, compliance with accounting standards, and efficient accounting procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Prepare and review financial statements, account reconciliations, and journal entries.
- Oversee general ledger activity and ensure accurate account balances.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash-management functions.
- Maintain and strengthen internal accounting controls and procedures.
- Coordinate audit and tax-related requests with external accountants and auditors.
- Research and apply applicable GAAP and accounting policies.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting efficiency.
- Supervise, train, and support accounting staff as needed.
- Assist the Controller with special projects and financial analysis.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3–7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably including supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Experience with month-end close and account reconciliations.
- Proficiency with Excel and accounting/ERP systems.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or CPA candidate.
- Experience with financial statement preparation and audits.
- Experience with ERP implementation or process improvement.
- Prior experience in a multi-entity or rapidly growing organization.
