THE ROLE & THE TEAM

At Zalando Designer, we are seeking a proactive and trend led Assistant Buyer to join our dynamic Buying team. As an Assistant Buyer for Designer, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping our product selection and brand strategies. Working closely with our Buyers, you will leverage your keen eye for trends and your deep understanding of the European market to curate a strong lineup of Designer products. 

As an Assistant Buyer , you will support the Buying team on product selection and brand strategies. You will work with the Buyer and on your own accounts to negotiate the best terms for the business with suppliers. You will also ensure the ordering process is efficient and compliant with Zalando’s processes and to assist the wider buying team where necessary and working in cooperation with the planning team. You support the team with analysis and trend topics, therefore contributing to the creative and commercial strategy of the unit.

WHAT WE'D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

  • You'll be accountable for taking actions that ensure the unit reaches its seasonal financial targets, dependent on your area of responsibility within the platform.

  • These actions are varied; from overseeing the order process end-to-end, as well as providing analytical support to our partners and the wider team to provide the best customer proposition

  • You'll impact future seasons by providing analytical insights and recommendations to grow the business for both your team and our brand partners, as well as devising your own strategies.

  • Working with Marketing and PR and to be aware of promotional opportunities during negotiations with suppliers

  • Carry out research and see through the end to end process of products being raised to going online.

  • Support your team in operational and functional matters, by creating, maintaining, & sending/cancelling orders and making sure all necessary steps are followed through

  • First contact person for our suppliers, next to our buyers, supporting in the set up and allowing smooth workflow

  • Work closely with our design, product and planning team in order to ensure that our products are available for purchase

WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF...

Looking for someone with +2 years work experience in buying or merchandising or similar operational function.

  • Knowledge & passion for the luxury market and emerging brands on a global level 

  • You can coordinate and manage some operational and strategic issues and projects, with the guidance and support of other team members/your lead

  • You have the ability to support building an assortment from a portfolio of brands according to customer needs, with up-to-date market knowledge and the use of relevant platform services

  • You have basic negotiation skills and take the opportunity to develop these by observing and learning from your lead

  • You are able to build relationships with brand partners, and observe and learn from seniors in how to successfully communicate strategy to brand partners
