The core purpose of the Assistant Brand Manager, Chocolates & Brand Equity, RoA is to support the execution of marketing strategies for Chocolates & Brand equity in Rest of Africa markets.
The Assistant Brand Manager will support the Senior Brand Manager & Equity lead with the Brand management, Innovation & Brand Equity and Sales & Trade Marketing initiatives to deliver annual plans through superior consumer and customer activation to execute the growth agenda for the Chocolates & Beverages categories.
The role plays an important part in driving the growth ambition of the Chocolates portfolio by delivering world class marketing plans and activation within the region.
How you will contribute
You will work with others to execute the brand strategy for designated brands, develop product and packaging initiatives, implement pricing strategies, and plan and execute integrated marketing communication and media plans. You will also provide recommendations for integrated commercial plans and provide input and support in the development and execution of marketing plans to ensure they meet revenue, profit targets, sharing objectives and monitoring performance. Based on your strong understanding of consumer insights, brand strategy and positioning, you ill help develop integrated marketing communications and 360 degree campaigns.

The Assistant Brand Manager will support the Senior Brand Manager & Equity lead with the Brand management, Innovation & Brand Equity and Sales & Trade Marketing initiatives to deliver annual plans through superior consumer and customer activation to execute the growth agenda for the Chocolates & Beverages categories.
The role plays an important part in driving the growth ambition of the Chocolates portfolio by delivering world class marketing plans and activation within the region.
Job specific requirements:
In line with the job purpose, key accountabilities will entail the following:
- Interfacing with all internal and external teams and cross-functional teams (External Agencies: Creative, Media, Activation, Internal Cross-functional Teams: Insights & Analysis Team (Market Research), Operations, Packaging, Purchasing, Finance, Sales & Trade Marketing)
- Assist Senior Brand Manager & Equity lead on the following:
- Annual Strategic Brand Plans and presentations.
- New campaign briefs and reverts. Aligning with chocolate Equity lead on strategy, debriefs etc. Sharing campaign budgets with agencies
- Budget management including phasing.
- Raising of Purchase Orders
- Collaborate in the development of product, packaging, pricing, advertising, POS materials and more.
- Managing brand equity by ensuring campaign work aligns to global brand guidelines, positioning, tone of voice and brand CI guidelines to ensure that our brands show up in a consistent manner.
- Managing packaging adaptations from Design to Print and implementation.
- Responsible for compiling quarterly business reviews and creative lead agency performance and submitting scores to the Brand Equity Lead.
- Responsible for managing the strategic communication and creative origination process, supporting the Brand Equity Lead during creative lead agency presentations.
- Attend and manage local VO recordings for ATL campaign elements.
- Support the Brand Equity Lead with the development and tracking of the creative lead agency's annual scope of work for East Africa.
- Attend weekly Creative Status (lead meeting / prepare agenda)
- Social Media Management: content creative and calendar in liaison with Brand Manager & the Creative & Digital agencies. Also manage the consumer complaints.
- Lead and prepare NPD/PPA meetings, to ensure business objectives are met to deliver on time launches.
- Support the team on day-to-day organization (meeting schedules, rooms, expenses, team holiday schedule)
- Budgeting- Co-ordinating PO processing with master shopper, Reconciling and phasing monthly budgets, reconciling invoicing and receipting proof of performance with suppliers
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
To succeed in this role, it is expected that the ideal candidate will have:
- Relevant tertiary degree or diploma - Marketing or related.
- Minimum 2 years' experience, having worked in a similar environment / role with at least 12 months' experience as an Assistant Brand Manager
- FMCG experience advantageous.
- Knowledge and experience: Consumer, Shopper and Trade Insights / Marketing Planning and Budget Management.
- Demonstrated experience in managing a 360-marketing campaign from ideation to execution.
- Proven ability to collaborate with cross functional teams.
- Strong digital background advantageous
- Ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of the core principles of marketing, project management and sales.
- Ability to manage projects without significant management support.
- Ability to build strategic and collaborative working relationships across the business.
- Strong level of computer competency, i.e. PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Excel.
- Be willing to face a new challenge every-day.
- Functions with limited dependency
- Successful individual will be required to work under ambiguity in certain instances, building hypothesis about the categories/brands, to ultimately lead to action orientated discussions
- Strong strategic communication, problem-solving and creative skills with an understanding of creative agencies.
- Basic understanding of branding and brand management.
- Experience in working with creative agency partners.
- A self-starter that can lead and manage projects independently with support from Category and Equity.
- Basic experience in working with production agencies and managing ATL production with production agency partners.
